Course Curriculum Overview
The thing that most importantly influenced me for choosing this career was the further opportunities that I might get from this course. The first main thing is, it's just of two years and after two years we get opportunities for OGT i.e., On Job Training, which is excellent because at the age of just 19 we get to do our internship, which is a commendable job, plus about the curriculum, about the real world experiences, as I said the OGT and AET, which are part of our training, provides us with the real life experiences on the aircraft, which prepares us for further more opportunities, further more interviews and gives us a bit of motivation to walk into the real life, the real world, where the actual job has to be conducted. The frequency and timing of the exams depends on the modules. If the module is of less marks, i.e., 20 marks, then it only takes 25 minutes and if the modules are big, which conducts for 2-3 months or 4 months or 5 months, then the timing is more based on the marks.
Internships Opportunities
After completing the two-year academic course, students participate in On-Job Training (OGT). This training is conducted in certified maintenance organizations (MROs), where students work on live aircraft. OGT provides exposure to real-time challenges in aircraft maintenance, including inspections, repairs, and servicing. In addition to OGT, students undergo Aircraft Engineering Training (AET), another hands-on experience component, which helps refine skills before certification.
Fees and Financial Aid
My course is of 2 years and the fees for 2 complete years is 13 lakhs. We pay it in installments and the installments are paid in every SEM which would be 3 months or 4 months. The installments would be around 3 lakhs, mine is 2,80,000 per SEM. After that, the scholarship details are like, if the child clears all the modules in this first attempt, then the child gets scholarship if applied and loan systems are also available. Plus, every module has 3 attempts. There are 2 sections in AME, Aircraft Maintenance Engineering, that is EASA and DGCA. EASA is international, DGCA is national. EASA fees is 13 lakhs plus DGCA fees is 6 lakhs or 8 lakhs. there are also many subdivisions in EASA, DGCA, which is Mechanical or Avionics. In Mechanical, which is B1 and Avionics, which is B2. In Mechanical, there are modules from 1 to 10, 11, 15 and 17.
Campus Life
The student community is diverse, creating opportunities to interact with individuals from different backgrounds who share a passion for aviation. Faculty members are approachable, fostering an inclusive and supportive environment. Events like seminars, aviation workshops, and cultural activities help build connections beyond academics. A standout feature is the dedicated hangar for real-life aircraft maintenance experience, which is invaluable for skill development. The library is stocked with relevant books, technical manuals, and resources for module preparation. Proximity to training facilities ensures seamless transitions between theory and practical sessions.
Admission
I chose Thakur Institute of Aviation and Technology because it stood out on several parameters compared to other colleges for Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME). Thakur Institute provides practical experience in a dedicated hangar with live aircraft, which is a unique feature. Other colleges may lack such exclusive and comprehensive hands-on training opportunities. The faculty here is approachable and well-organized, ensuring students receive timely help and guidance. In contrast, some other colleges may have a higher student-to-faculty ratio, leading to less personalized attention. The two-year course structure, followed by On-Job Training (OGT) and Aircraft Engineering Training (AET), ensures early exposure to real-world scenarios If I couldn't secure admission in other colleges, it was likely due to limited seats or higher cutoffs. However, Thakur Institute's emphasis on real-world training and a student-friendly environment made it my top choice. The overall process and focus of the institute align perfectly with my career goals in aviation maintenance.
Faculty
The faculty-to-student ratio is excellent. If any kind of help needed to the student, there is no hesitation that the student cannot ask for the faculty. The faculty is very helpful, very approachable, and very organized. Plus, there might be some times when the faculty might be not working properly, not maintained properly, but the student gets all the information on time, everything on time. And about the modules, there are one to around 13 or 14 modules. And if the students complete, clears all the modules gets a scholarship if applied. And regarding the marking system, there are no negative markings. So feel free to mark all the question answers properly. Plus, the level of questions depends on the subjects and depends on the professors who are teaching you, instructors basically. And hands-on training, there is a different area, hangar, away from the college where we have to conduct our practicals, where practicals are conducted. And it's a very excellent thing to get your hands-on training on the aircraft live, which really helps in AET and OGT.
Night Life
I haven't been any kind of night lufe if the college as there are no such activities. Hostels are available which us near to the college. The kandivali area is safe to roam around atnight time. Cafe and canteen area bothe are available whole day till the college ends
