What Students Say
Likes
- The teacher's are super interactive. The teaching staff is really good, in the class as well as the labs.
- The college sports department is good. If you have the skills, and determination to go to practice everyday, they will provide you will the best coaching and all the opportunities to play well.
- The library. SJU has one of the biggest libraries seen in any other colleges. There are abundant resources available for any kind of course.
Dislikes
- The distance. It's a little far away from my college, so the travel time is a lot.
- Since I am a vegetarian, I did not like that the college has so many non vegetarian options (beef particularly).
- Some department teachers are really not that good, but at the same time they sent notes, so i guess it's on us to study better.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum offers three subjects as your major in the beginning so it's easier to decide what's best for you as the time goes by because you have so many options to choose from. As I am a first year student I cannot really comment on the real world applications.
Internships Opportunities
I haven't received any internship offers yet so i wouldn't know about it. I think it might be possible to get internships only from 2nd year onwards. I have heard people do get good opportunities, and learning experiences.
Placement Experience
From the last semester the students become eligible for placements, they are prepared before hand from the previous semester about this. My plans after getting the bachelor's degree is to pursue master's.
Fees and Financial Aid
The scholarship is only available for the general merit if their family's annual income is lesser than 3lpa. So, no i don't have any scholarship. The overall fees is 85000, with regional languages as the option. But, if you want to opt for languages such as french, german, etc., you have to pay 30000 extra.
Campus Life
There are two fests held, one called fresher's day for all the sem 1 students, and the other called Pratibha, for the entire college. They celebrated onam. There's an annual athletic meet held and sportstakes every year. The athletic meet in intra college whereas sportstakes is inter college.. There are a lot of clubs you can join. I am one of the office bearers of the botany club, joined the choir, the sports club.
Admission
I did not apply to any other colleges, it was just SJU. And i got a confirmation email and the was an interview, and i got selected. The admission process was through their website, nothing offline. This includes the payment of the fees and everything.
Faculty
The faculty is really approachable, you can go to them anytime, or text them, just within the appropriate time. I love the botany and chemistry faculty the most. Biotechnology faculty was probably my least favourite. There are two exams per semester, and they are divided into mid sem exams and final exams.
Night Life
There is a gym available for the sports students. The library is extremely useful and spacious. There are two cafeterias, one in the arupe block and one on top of magis. Both the canteens provide us with good food. Inside the college, there is a boy's hostel block. The most famous hangout place has to be arupe atrium and the bleachers. Along with this there is a huge Banyan tree, so people chill over there too.
