What Students Say
Likes
- The infrastructure is quite good, providing a comfortable and conducive learning environment for the students. The classrooms are well equipped with air conditioners. Also, every class has it's own projector, making it easy easy for teachers to teach
- Another thing that impressed me was university's committnent to punctuality- classes started on time and teachers were very quite strict about it. This installs a sense of discipline and responsibility in students.
- Amity has it's own portal called "Amizone". It tracks all the classes, exams, results, and schedules. It makes it very easy for the students.
Dislikes
- Some of the professors who have just recently completed their PhDs, lacked the teaching experience and expertise needed to effectively convoy the complex concepts. Their inexpensive and many a times lack of proper knowledge made it very difficult.
- Despite Amity's claims for prioritising research, my experience was vastly disappointing. The labs are not well equipped. Some faculties publish papers but only reviews. Overall, the resources are limited for research.
- I felt overwhelmed with the bizzare amount of assignments that does not good. After spending 8-10 hours in the college, students are forced to do multiple assignments.
Course Curriculum Overview
There are mid-semester exams in the middle of every semester and an end-sem at the end of it. There are a total of 8 semesters. The course curriculum is of mid-difficulty. Anyone who attends and listens to classes can pass them with flying colours. Curriculum is designed as per UGC standards. They also teach subjects to meet the industry demands. Foreign language such as French is compulsory. Overall the curriculum is good.
Fees and Financial Aid
Students who secure their position in the top 5% of the class get a scholarship of upto 100%. Also, during admission, if you score more than 85%, the college provides scholarship upto 50% during admission for the 1st semester.
Campus Life
At my time the Campus was very small, but it was well equipped with air conditioners. Now they have their own campus which is quite spacious and advanced. There's an annual fest called Amiphoria which is the main event. There's also a sports fest called Sangathan. Extracurricular activities such as dance, singing, etc are promoted during various events. The library is overall good. You can read subscription journals when connected to library's wifi. They have good books as well.
Admission
I didn't apply for other colleges. This was nearby my house and almost the best private college among others. The admission process is very easy. There's an entrance test followed by an interview. For B.Tech in Biotechnology, you just need to have more than 60% in the PCBE. The entrance exam is also very easy.
Faculty
I had a mixed experience with the faculties at Amity Ranchi. While some professors were highly knowledgeable and supportive while others were inexperienced and very unprofessional. The greatest faculty in the biotechnology department is Dr. Kunal Kumar who has an in-depth knowledge of the subject and explains very concept very well. He also explains lab procedure in a good and easy way. However, there are some professors like Dr. Sumira Malik who only exploits students to write papers for them and omits their names very often. She shows very unprofessional behaviours such as having lunch in the laboratory, missing classes oftentimes and completing coursework just by handing over her presentations (she also involves students to make her teaching presentations). When some students acheive notable academic success, some faculty members display bizzare behaviour, making it clear that they feel threatened by some sort.
Interview Experience
The basic eligibility requirement for my course was 60% in the 12th standard. Then there's an entrance test which asks simple multiple choice questions similar to NEET but the difficulty level was very easy. Anyone with basic knowledge of the subjects can crack it. Then it is followed by an interview where they ask simple questions like why do want to choose this course and university.
Night Life
My favourite place to hangout was the lab. Although the library is good as well. Now the campus as cafeteria, large ground, seminar halls and many more.. However there's no gym facility provided by the university. There are separate hostels for boys and girls. The college timings are from 9.15am-5.30pm.
