Course Curriculum Overview

5

the inclusion of biotechnology and classical botany led me to take this course, as i was interested in it from the beginning. the cussiculum prepares me for research level and real- life observationa of the plant kingdoms with frequent field visits and tours to research plants in forests. we recently went on a field visit to tada waterfalls to research bryophytes and pteridophytes

Internships Opportunities

5

Many internships are offered in our department to biotechnological industries, and as a scholarship witherit, one can apply for a student exchange programme to spend 1 semester abroad in canada or europe where MCC has college partnerships. such things are purely based on merit and score in the college exams.

Placement Experience

5

Employability after this cource is slim, but if you consider doing PG after UG degree fonpletion, it opens up a wide scope in biotech, pharmaceuticals and th3 ecology industry fo4 internships. Since botany is tje xore subject it can open up job opportunities to the food industry also.

Fees and Financial Aid

Yearly fees is 36000 INR which covers 2 semesters which includes the lab fees, and caution deposit. There is special preference for christians. Scholarships are given based on the family income, and academic performance on the basis of college results. fee structure for all classmates is one and the same.

Campus Life

5

There are events nearly every month in the college, but the best festivals are conducted in september - january namely Utsav, Moonshadow and the college's biggest event of all - deepwoods. we do have a linrary housing some of the oldest books in chennai and have a vast range of books to choose from and there also exists an online library. classrooms give the vide of the old MCC times with old wooden benches which are surprisingly well kept and maintained, with fans and lights well maintained also. hats of to the housekeeping staff. sports lie at the very heart of MCC with various spirts like football and cricket being the core. we have multiple cluba to choose from and it is compulsory to be in any one club to get the degree.

Hostel Facilities

5

The rooms are well equipped with lights and one window. it iw a single occupancy room with each hall having 245 plus rooms. we need to brimg out own tower fans as the building is nearly 100 years old. food is top class and very good.no complaints. registration is straightforward and the same as college admission. it is purely online. document verification is done offline the day before admission into the hall. many PG hostels are also available in Anandhapuram and East tambaram, not too far away from the college campus.

Admission

I applied to this college as the botany department of MCC had a NIRF overall India ranking of 2. It was the best one closer to home. I also got an offer from Loyola College in Chennai for the department of zoology, but as i was more interested in it, I opted for botany. The eligibility requitements were a Pass result from the board (CBSE or state board), class 10th marksheet or class 12th marksheet, Aadhar card and a passbook bank account under the student's name. the registration was putely online and the names were shortlisted and posted on the MCC website. Document verification took place 1 week after the namelist got released and i got admitted after verification.

Faculty

4

faculty to student ratio is good with 2 faculty for 25 students.they are kind, calm and approachable at all times, especially the HoD of our department. exams are easy and not too difficult, and curriculum is well structured, catching up to the biology portions of CBSE class 12. there is continuity.

Night Life

5

in MCC, the hostels are run by the students and are called 'Hall' and there are 3 for boys and 3 for girls. curgew times are nominal. nightlife is the best in MCC with 2 major hangout spots, namely botany tank and zoology tank. we also have a boxing arena where announcements usually take place. boys hall timings are from 5.00am to 10.30PM, after which a late fine of 100 is applied. mess fees for the halls range from 4.7k to 6k depending on the eating habits.
