What Students Say
Likes
- The college had a very loving and warm atmosphere which I miss even years after graduating.
- The teachers are so endearing and care not only about how we do education wise but also personally.
- College life was very lively and there was something happening every other day.
Dislikes
- The long working days (from 8AM till 4PM).
- Little exposure compared to other colleges.
- Too many activities restricted to JNC students and not enough intercollegiate activities.
Course Curriculum Overview
Curriculum wise I feel like it could do better. The content being taught felt a little too much like we were being spoon-fed. There wasn't much relevance in terms of real world application for CE and Journalism subjects. Psychology was very well rounded both practically and theory wise.
Internships Opportunities
For our course, there were no placements provided which had to be the most disappointing part. I believe that commerce students do get to register with the placement cell, but BA PJCE at the time did not. We were mandated to do a month-long internship during one of the semesters, but apart from that there wasn't any mention of those either.
Fees and Financial Aid
I joined the college as an NRI so had to pay a few grand extra, but apart from that the base fee for the course was Rs. 65000 per year. There were various financial aid options and scholarships available to whoever needed them.
Campus Life
We had several fests within our department and also college such as Mediacon and Scintillation. Life at JNC was very happening and involved so many different clubs and activities. There was also a system of allowing students to put up stalls on certain days and sell their products such as accessories or baked goods, which we always looked forward to!
Admission
Though it is a small college compared to all the other popular colleges in Bangalore, the campus and word-of-mouth from alumni really convinced me. I was looking for a place where I'd be at peace and also be able to thrive, and I achieved just that at JNC. I applied during the pandemic in 2020, so the entire admission process was carried out online.
Faculty
The faculty was the best part about JNC and most of us are still in touch with them even years after graduating. Kapil sir, Sumit sir, Renita ma'am.. they're all the best!! Everybody at JNC is so encouraging. I personally feel like it has one of the best environments for students to figure things out and thrive. We had 6 semesters over 3 years and had 1 midsem and 1 end sem in each sem. The curriculum was mostly theory based, though there were some practical aspects involved as well.
Interview Experience
Since the whole admission process when I joined was during the pandemic in 2020, everything was online. I had two rounds of interviews and no entrance test as far as I remember. The interviews questions were mostly personal along with a few questions to assess how interested I was in the course and what my future plans were.
Night Life
The college is situated in the most happening block of Koramangala, so there are endless things you can find to do around. Koramangala 5th block is also not too far from other popular localities like Church Street, Indiranagar, etc.
