Course Curriculum Overview
MBBS in general is a very long and tiresome course. I suggest you to only take it if you are really passionate about it. Having said that, JIPMER's curriculum is one of the best all over India. They focus majorly on the clinical skills which ensures that by the time you finish your course, you will become one of the best clinicians.
Fees and Financial Aid
Fees for each academic year is 6,000 rupees. If you have come through NRI quota (it doesn't exist anymore), then you have to pay 50 lakhs Indian rupees for the entire course. Also fees for the second year is 10,000 as it is 1.5 years long.
Campus Life
Spandan is the name of our annual inter college sports and cultural fest. The infrastructure provided here is the best all over India. Even the library provides you access to so many online resources such as MyLoft application where you can get all ELSEVIER Publivation books at your fingertips. Sports and other extracurricular activities offered here range from cricket, tennis, football, basketball, etc to band experience, dance, dramatics etc etc
Hostel Facilities
The food is not great because it is hostel mess food. Hostel rooms are quite good and there are double rooms and single rooms. Single rooms are given as you become senior and first years are always given double rooms. The rooms are good and the only issue is that A/C is not allowed in hostel rooms. Also there is a common refrigerator but other than that students can't have their own personal refrigerators.
Admission
I applied for AIIMS Delhi but I didn't get an admission because my AIR was 100. My second choice was JIPMER and I got into here. For admission into JIPMER, like any other medical college you are required to write the NEET UG exam and based upon your rank you can get admission into the college of your choice. For admission into AHS, you are again required to write the NEET UG exam. The cutoffs are really high for mbbs admission and it is usually around 300 AIR for the general category students.
Faculty
The faculties here are some of the best doctors in India as this is one of the best institutes in India. Most of our faculties are research scholars and some of them are also authors of well known medical books. For example, Dr Raveendranath is the chief editor of Gray's Anatomy for students (South Asian edition)
Night Life
There are no strict timings for hostel. There are separate hostels for boys and girls. There is a cafeteria which is open 24/7 and library if also open 24/7. Also the campus is very safe even at night. Even if you go outside the campus at night it's safe overall.
