Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum at this institute for each branch is very relevant and is useful for upgrading new skills which are essential for industrail placements. Moreover, the course work of our branch helps students crack competitive exams like GATE, JEST, TIFR, CSIR NET, etc. At the same time, it helps students develop their foundation which is required for internship purpose. We have two main exams per semester, one is midsem sem and the other is endsem. For third year students there is a concept of miniproject in their currriculum in which students have to choose any topic and apply their theory knowledge which they acquire in two-three years through course work. In fourth year, Btech students are required to do industrial internship in the last sem, before getting placed. Same goes for MSc students, The only difference is that they have to do their master's thesis in fifth year on any topic, from other institute or from the same institute. Overall, I liked the whole structure of curriculum in this institute.
Placement Experience
The placements here are pretty good. There is separate Training and Placement Cell which guide students for their placements. NIT Surat is known for the placements in Chemical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering Department. Placement rate is very high for these two branches due to various chemical industries Surat city. As per 2024 data the average package CSE department is 15.86 LPA and the highest is 52 LPA. Overall palcement rate for Btech 2024 was 65.47%. The placement rate is not much for Integrated MSc branch.
Fees and Financial Aid
NIT Surat has different tuition fees for Integrated MSc degree and BTech Degree. For odd sem Masters Degree has rupees 38,250 and even sem has rupees 34,250. Thus, total tuition fee is rupees 72,500 per year till fourth year. For last year, the total fee is rupees 21,500. Moreover, this fee includes all the aminities such as mediclaim, libraries, etc. For me this is affordable, and is worth it compared to other private colleges. In case of BTech degree, tuition fee is almost rupees 1,35,000 from second year and third year; whereas for fourth year it rupees 1,39,000, and for first year it 1,54,000. But we it still be reduced for the students who fall in the categories like OBC, EBC,EWS,SC,ST,NT,etc. SC, ST, PWD students will get complete tuition fee waiver. For the students whose family income is less than 1 lakh per annum they will get full remission of tuition fee. For the students whose family income lies between 1 lakh to 5 lakh per annum they will get remission of two third of the tuition fee. For MSc students, there is no such scheme.
Campus Life
The campus spans 250 acres and includes departmental buildings, 9 hostels (7 for boys, 1 for girls and a guest house), a large sports ground, gym, indoor sports facilities, and a well resourced central library. Additionally, the institute is located in prosperous neighborhood. The institute has varied types of Student Chapter Clubs such as Drishti for tech, CHRD for cultural, as well asrespective departmental clubs. The institute organizes tech fest called as MindBend which is Gujarat's biggest Techno- Managerial fest. It also organises cultural fest called SPARSH in which renowned celebrities are invited. Along with it there is fersher's a party known as Kashish for the new incoming students. The institute also celebrates various festivals in which it has a grand celebration of Navratri.
Admission
Admission in this college occurs through JOSAA counseling. The strtudents who appear for JEE Mains and JEE Advanced get into JOSAA counseling process, so as to get into IITs, NITs, IIITs, GFTIs. JOSAA has in all 5 to 6 rounds. After JOSAA rounds there is again CSAB rounds for NITs and GFTIs. I got selected in this college at the first round of JOSAA itself. I gave this college as my first preference in the college list which is to be made at the time of counseling. The reason for this preference was that I wanted to choose integrated MSc Degree in Physics as per my career goal, and more importantly this college is not much away from my native place. Moreover, being an institute of national importance this institute provides a platform to get in touch with international internship opportunities. Thus I preferred this institute.
Faculty
The faculties of MSc Physics are very chill and friendly. We can approach them any time we are in dilemma, during the college hours. For each subject there is a separate faculty. Thus, each faculty is given a subject to teach such that the subject is revlevant their research area. Yearly, we have two exams one is midsem and the other is endsem. Midsems are generally of 30 marks and End sem is of 50 marks. There is a separate makeup exam for the first year students. This make up exam is to recover their marks if the students fail in midsem exam.
