Course Curriculum Overview

3

There are very important subjects and topics in our course like Political Science where we were taught about Plato and Aristotle in detail which is very necessary and helps in building ideas and opinions in ones mind. But there are also certain topics and maybe even subjects which don't have any relevance to our profession of law. For example, even if Sociology is relevant to some extent, the practical methods of doing sociological research shouldn't be a part of the curriculum as it has no relevance. The curriculum in whole prepares us well for the real world experience as there are a number of compulsory moot courts, court diaries, internships etc. which are part of the curriculum and ready us for the outside world. The syllabus of our course has been changed recently and I think it is a welcome step as certain additions and ommissions have made the course more relevant. The marks for a single subject are distributed in 80 marks for the written exam at the end of the semester and 20 marks for internal exams. The internal exams then may be conducted various times and the marks be distributed but it depends on the teacher who has the discretion. The written exam happens every 6 months and the difficulty level is very easy.

Fees and Financial Aid

There is no admission fees or any other unnecessary fees since it is a public institution. For my course, the tution fees is Rs. 11,875 but there is an examination and IT fees which is Rs. 2,025 for the first semester of the year and Rs. 1,725 for the second semester of the year. The fees has been the same for the three years I have been in this university and is not increasing. in todays day and age, I think our fees is a very small amount which means that people from all sections can take admission which is the beauty of this university.

Campus Life

4

There are different festivals that are organised by different departments in te university campus but the biggest of them is Chirgish organised by Department of Management Studies which includes stalls from local entrepreneurs giving them a path to grow. These festivals are typically held in the second half of the year. The range and accessibility of books in our University is brilliant as it houses a 9- floor Allam Iqbal Library which is among the biggest libraries in Asia. This library contains books from all subjects and genres and to make it convenient for students, they can find where the particular book is located on the university website. The technological facilities is one of the aspect where the university lags behind even though it is working tirelessly to facilitate students with every technological provision but it still has a long way to go. The scope for sports and extracurricular activities is good in the university but a person has to be very active to know when and where something is happening. Many a times it happens that some event is taking place and most of the students don' t even know about it. The university boasts of 4-5 big grounds where all kinds of outdoor sports can be played along with a volleyball, basketball and badminton court. There are different social groups such as book clubs and NGOs formed by students for a particular cause and all the students are welcome to join these.

Admission

I had applied in M.S Ramaiah College in Bengaluru and also St. Joseph University in Bangalore and got. confirmed admission from them but I chose my university over them since I can stay home and not have shift to a different place. The law department of our University is one of the remarkable and historical law institutions throughout the country and has given birth to various extra ordinary achievers over the years. The admission process of our college includes an entrance test which includes multiple choice questions. The paper is of 60 marks and invludes questions from English, Legal Aptitude, Logical Reasoning, Mathematics. The difficulty of the exam is pretty easy and the students are selected from the merit list based on this exam.

Faculty

4

The facultyto student ratio in our particular department is approximately 20:1000. The faculty student relationship is very healthy and the faculty members encourage children to approach them regarding any doubts or issues even outside the class. Prof. Mohammad Hussain and Mir Mubashir Altaf are the two remarkable faculty members that I liked the most. Prof. Hussain has been the HoD for the last two years now and has led the department remarkably with his impressive administration. Mr. Mir Mubashir is a gem of a teacher who has been very monumental in my love for constitutional law as he teaches in a way where the student has to interact with him which develops a very healthy classroom environment. There aren't any faculty members that I dislike, it is just that you like some more than the others, but you don't dislike any of them.
