What Students Say
Likes
- The infrastructure available is great keeping in mind that it is a Government institution.
- The reputation it has is a great advantage. It gives weight to the degree as it is considered one of the best universities in the entire state.
- Also, the environment is great for co-curricular activities other than studying. There are many clubs to be part of, also there’s a FM Studio of the college itself. The environment for sports is also Great.
Dislikes
- According to me, the teaching staffs change very often. So to grasp every other teacher’s teaching style that quickly is really difficult.
- The placements offered here are from limited companies only. Each year the same companies are ready to hire. I feel like there should be more options for the students as well.
- Not a that big deal, but when it rains the main entrance of the university gets flooded with water and it is very hard to cross that while on foot.
Course Curriculum Overview
I studied Commerce in my 12th class. BCom is like studying the 12th class Commerce in a more depth. So, in order to gain detailed knowledge about what I studied in 12th, I decided to Study BCom. The Course is a go to if you are from Commerce background. It gives a good degree along with a lot of time to think what you have to persue in the future. As it does not need all your time and effort, you can indulge in other activities while studying Bcom. You can try many new fields while studying this course as it does not take one's entire time and efforts. Also, the faculty teaching this course in our university is the best. They make the course even easier with the experience they have. The exams conducted are easy and one can easily score good with medium efforts. The course is divided into 6 semesters and each semester has two exams, Mid-Sem(Internals) and End-Sem(Finals). Internals hold 20 marks per subject and are conducted after 3 months of the start of semester and Finals hold 80 marks per subject and are conducted at the end of the Semester. The exams are comparatively easier and scoring good marks in not a very difficult task.
Placement Experience
There are multiple placement options available from the 5th semester. Multiple Companies try to hire the students. Companies like Accenture, EY, TCS, Deloitte, Cognizant, Wipro, etc are some of the top recruiters of students in Ravenshaw. Though they offer very minimal salary as the students are freshers with no experience about the work. The average package lies around 3LPA and Highest can go around 7LPA, which in my opinion is not that bad taking into consideration that the students are freshers. More than 50% students get placed from the Streams like BCom, BBA, etc. We recently got few placement options, however I haven't applied in many till now except for TCS. My plan is to take a year break and not to join any company in the near future.
Fees and Financial Aid
You have to make an one time payment of some 2000rs at the time of admission and then pay 1700rs per year while re-admission. The fees for semester exams are different from this. That would cost somewhere around 700rs per semester. You can also opt for hostel which is also very reasonable, hostel fees lies somewhere around 9000rs per year and the food charge is different to that. Students can also apply for many scholarships which are provided by the Government if they are eligible for applying.
Campus Life
As I mentioned earlier, the Social life is a very big positive for Ravenshaw. You will find people from different cities and backgrounds and know their cultures and traditions. In my experience, I have even seen international students in the University. All the festivals are celebrated together and with a lot of fun. The hostels organise different fests very often to keep the students engaged. Independence Day and Republic Day are celebrated in a great way. There are multiple times when I have seen celebrities being invited to the campus for be it functions or TedX Shows. For Sports, it is one of the best places. The Ground is large, there is also an indoor stadium for indoor sports. There are multiple Gyms available for the students. The Ground can be used to play Football, Cricket, Basketball, Lawn Tennis, etc and the indoor stadium can be used to play the indoor sports and games. There is also a yoga center to keep the students relaxed and focused on their studies.
Admission
Ravenshaw was always my first priority because why not? This is literally the best Institution (Government) in the entire state. Every student wants to study in Ravenshaw. The Reputation is has from the very past is very good. Gladly, I managed to get into this University. I also applied in other Colleges but my first choice was Ravenshaw and I got selected in the first attempt. The admission process was very simple. One has to apply from the SAMS Portal which is a government website for students. Select the +3 Page and click on Apply. Then Fill the necessary personal details and other information. Then select the institutions where you are interested to study, one has to apply in a minimum of 5 institutions in the order of priority. Then Review all the information and Submit the form. After few days, you shall receive mail/message from SAMS regarding your selection and you can check from which institution you have been selected along with the date and time of the Admissions. Reach the College on the given date and time along with all the mentioned documents. The documents would get verified by the college staff and after that the admission process is complete.
Faculty
As I mentioned earlier, the guest faculty change very often. But the permanent faculty who teach the important subjects are best. Their experience and knowledge not only about the course but also the life lessons they teach and very important for a student. The faculty are very approachable and helpful to the students. The also organise digital sessions to make the topics more interactive. The few teachers whom I liked the most are Mr. Sanjeeb Kumar Dey, Mr. Prakash Parida and Dr. Suprava Sahu. There are many other teachers who are great as well but these are the best in my opinion. My course is of 3 years which comprises of 6 semesters. Each semester is of 6 months and the exams are divided into two parts: Mid-Sem and End-Sem. The Mid sem exams are the internals of 20 marks each and End Sem are the final exams of 80 marks. In case of practical subjects, the internal examination holds 15 marks, practicals of 25 marks and finals of 60 marks. The exams are very easy and one can easily get good grades with medium efforts.
