What Students Say
Likes
- The attention received from professors.Unlike other GMCs we only have 100 per batch therefore each student will be known by the professors and will be getting good attention and care
- Hostel facilities provided in here are better than other private hostels out there
- Curfew is at 10pm which allows us to freely go out and come back without much tension
Dislikes
- The fact that hospital is still under the process of development
- The hospital is a bit far from the town therefore people usually opt nearby hospital over GMC
- Lack of play ground and auditorium but both are under construction therefore hoping to have a theatre and playground in 2yrs time
Course Curriculum Overview
MBBS is the dream for about 40% of the students who opt for science stream after 10th I was one among them. More than service I was drawn towards this position due to the amount of respect a doctor in our society receives. The curriculum includes direct interaction with the patient from 2nd year onwards. This clinical exposure helps us in a lot of way to make us ready to treat a patient. Other than clinical postings there will be smart classes and practical sessions to make the study more effective. There will be once in a month test for each subject other than sessionals in order for us to avoid backlogs. Exam level will be moderate to difficult, then again it solely depends on the amount of work you put into studies.
Internships Opportunities
The college provides us 1year intership at the Medical College itself with a stipend of around 25k per month. There they will help us properly treat a patient and confidently take up the job on our on in the future Internship/house surgeoncy is the time where we can make mistakes (minor) and learn from it.
Fees and Financial Aid
I'm an MBBS student in Government Medical College, Pathanamthitta established in 2020. I am one among the first batch students of GMC Pathanamthitta aka GMC Konni. The college excels in terms of academics with 100% pass percentage. The hospital isn't fully developed but is in the process of development. In the beginning number of patients visiting hospital OP was few. But now after 4 years of service patients coming to consult the hospital doctors are increasing due to the good care they recieve and the hospital is growing with each passing day. Coming to #Fee structure# Fees per year=22500 Van fees, convenience fee, govt. implied hostel fee, etc. sum upto 3000 Making total fee=25500 #scholarship# For categories like sc/st/oec, students will be recieving their annual fee and mess fee as scholarship through egrantz Obc/ews can also avail the tuition fee according to their income. #Mess# As for mess, the currently running mess & their food is good as compared to other hostels.Mess cut is also allowed. Monthly mess fee=4500(excluding mess cut) #Hostel# As the institution is new the college's hostel facility is commendable and is grand for a govt hostel Per room-3 students with each student recieving a personal wall attached wooden cupboard, wooden almirah (1 out of 3 compartments), wooden study table with wooden chair and a queen sized wooden bed.Toilet and bathroom are common-4 of each is shared among 18students. Monthly establishment fees=1000 Finally, if you find yourself getting an admission in this college don't hesitate just go for it.
Campus Life
College doesn't have much provision for extracurricular activities as of now but construction are going on for building new play ground and am auditorium. As of now campus life is limited. There is table tennis, chess, badminton, volleyball, cricket and football currently being played at our college and participants from our college has achieved trophies in various sports and arts competition in inter College sports and arts festivals. We have language club, environment club, music club, literature club, dance club, etc. most of which are active Class rooms are smart classes with projections as well as board writings with gallery arrangement Eid,Christmas, Onam,Holi, ethnic day, valentine's day, union day, etc. are some of our celebrations.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel is provided by the govt., but unlike other government hostels GMC Konni's hostel for sure is the best. Wooden furnitures are provided-bed,wall attached cupboard,1/3rd of an almirah, study table with chair.one room can accommodate 3 students very well leaving more than enough space to walk around Mess is run by a private catering service and they provide better food than other hostels.Quality wise it is okay Menu include 5 days non-veg 2 days veg meal. Government fee for hostel is 50/month But they charge us 1000/month as establishment fee other than that. College is only a 3minutes walk away from hostel
Admission
The placement was based on NEET score, according to my Kerala rank I got placed at GMC Konni on the second allotment. If I had went on with the all india allotment then I would've gotten GMC Ernakulam or Alappuzha but due to a gut instinct(& lot of tension) I chose Konni and am not regretting it I chose Konni over Idukki due to the lack of facilities in GMC Idukki My Kerala rank was in 1200s Cut off was around 596marks
Faculty
The faculties are all student friendly and very cooperative be it the professor or the cleaning staffs. Some departments still complaint about staff shortage and the govt is placing more and more every year.Doesn't much affect students but the professors due to their increase in work load As for the exams, -Every year there will be three sessional exams 2 sessionals single paper 100marks for each subject -Last sessional is conducted as model exam and has 2papers for each subject each paper for 100 marks -most(60%)students fail for sessional exams but manage to pass university exams. -study is a bit stressful but worth every single effort
Other Applied Colleges
Government Medical College Idukki | Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery [MBBS]
The hostel facility and academic facilities are poor
