What Students Say
Likes
- The Lab facilities in the department are really good, and it gives a chance to all the students to get hands on experience.
- The Professors here at KSBT are highly qualified and are approachable too.
Dislikes
- If you are looking for a corporate job or industry job after your degree completion, then do not expect a high paying job right away. As a fresher you cannot expect a high CTC.
- The management here pushes you for a career in research rather than in industry. Which is good for research oriented students but proves to be a challenge for those looking for industry exposure.
Course Curriculum Overview
The aspect that influenced my decision to choose this course is the integrated nature of the course i.e The Dual-Degree. (BTech-MTech). The curriculum includes many subjects which constitute Biotechnology. Our curriculum also lets us choose electives, which is beneficial for developing interests. A problem with this curriculum is that no specific subject is taught in detail, we mostly try to cover all the topics that are essential for Biotechnology. A suggestion to be included in the curriculum is to enhance Application-based learning i.e Applying the theories through technology.
Placement Experience
From the 9th Semester students are eligible for Placements. There are various companies which visit KSBT - Intas, Zifo, Promea, GSK, Nestle etc. The Average Package in KSBT for a fresher is around 3.5 Lakhs per annum. Do not expect a high paying job as soon as you graduate. Most students do get placed here in KSBT, that is the number of students sitting for placements. Many opt for research opportunities too.
Fees and Financial Aid
The admission fees is 75,000. The Academic Fees Per semester is 1,75,000. (This is for a total of 10 semesters) Examination Fees per semester is 1000. Note- A scholarship amount of approximately 30,000 is given to the topper of a respective semester of a particular batch. ** This information is based on Admission Year- 2021
Campus Life
There are various social events that take place in KSBT. The KIIT Fest takes place in the month of February. But conducting in-house events through student run clubs is difficult as we do not get the permission that easily. Books and Journals are easily available in our library. The classrooms are Air-conditioned and have a Smart-Board which is used by Professors for their lectures. There is a Basketball Court, a gym, a swimming pool , a badminton court, table tennis court, squash court , billiards table and a football field as well in the interest of sports related activities. Clubs here include- Photography Club Dance & Drama Club Music Club Art Club Writing & Speaking Club And we also have an NSS wing here at KSBT which is very active.
Hostel Facilities
There are Ac- Rooms as well as non-Ac rooms. Rooms typically have 3 beds (or 2 beds based selection) , fans , cupboards and tables. New mattresses will be provided upon admission with a bucket and a mug. The Meal quality here is below average. Even though the menu looks like it would be good , food quality is not upto the marks provided the amount of money you are giving.
Admission
I applied to Amity University and Adamas University and got a confirmed admission from both. But I had my sights set on KIIT. The reason for this is mostly because of the integrated nature of the course. And also because through word of mouth we had learnt that KIIT has good placements. The admission process here is fairly simple, there is an Exam , KIITEE. Once you've appeared for the examination you are eligible for the admission process.
Faculty
The Faculty here at KSBT is very approachable. You can approach them for course related as well as unrelated doubts. They are always there to guide you. Most faculties here have their own research labs and would take in interns for their labs from 3rd Year onwards. The examination structure is as follows- Internal exams- Mostly MCQ based. 10 Marks Attendance and class interaction- 20 Marks Mid-Semester Exams- 20 Marks- Written. End Semester Exams- 50 Marks- Writen. Total- 100 Marks Exam Difficulty - Medium Most students pass the exams barring a few. KSBT follows a Grading System- O- 90-100 E- 80-89 A- 70-79 B- 60-69 C- 50-59 D- 40-49 F- <40
