What Students Say
Likes
- I really really like the faculty at srm, most professors are so nice and everyone has a phd, the research opportunities are great as well!
- I also love that people here are very open minded which stems from the open mindedness of the campus. We have zero dress code restrictions which coming from a female feels awesome
- There are so many activities you can take part in, so many things you can take lead on.
Dislikes
- I don’t think I have anything to dislike particularly so far, all my experiences have definitely been positive.
- But it gets really hot in the summers due to the glass buildings but again we have aircons at Full blast in the classroom , it only feels annoying when you have to walk to a different block
- Most times hostellers get preferred over dayscholars🙃
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose this course because buildings and building anything from scratch made me happy always and although the subjects are a bit difficult, at the end of the day I still feel happy that I chose this path and the teachers are very kind a patient, if needed we can visit their cabin and they would re explain everything! The curicculum prepares pretty well including field and site visits pretty often, we solve problems imagining the real world scenarios. I have no complaints about the teaching methods, they suit me really well! Exams are always a bit annoying but again if you go to all classes and study regularly they're very easy and usually the teachers never make the paper that difficult because they watch us really closely and knows our stamina when it comes to exams.
Internships Opportunities
I never took much interest in intwrnships but mails always pop up encouraging us to apply, most notable worthy are the japanese placements tho! I don't have much details but there's also research unternships available in the campus!
Placement Experience
You get eligible after your 3-1 I believe, the placements as far as I know are satisfactory and since the civil department at srm is very small not much information is known but I do know we have a japanese placement programme and they are actively asking us to participate where they teach you japanese language, culture provide you with internship and then placement. I even got offered but turned it down because I was not interested and if what I heard is true then the average package is 8.33 lakhs, highest is 17 lakhs and this japanese placement program says the average package I believe is over 30 lakhs but I'm not sure. I plan to continue my studies abroad and then I want to get my phd later on, this was actually inspired by my professors????
Fees and Financial Aid
I pay 2,50,000? but people joining through eamcet needs to pay the government allotted fees and there usually are scholarships for international students, as high as 85% scholarship. 5000? for caution deposit and 10,000? for admission. Caution and admission only need to be paid once. I'm pretty sure there are merit scholarships which is decided through srmjee entrance exam. You need to pay the examination fee before attempting the end semester exam and it differs. And there is no caste based fee system.
Campus Life
Infrastructure is termed world class and definitely lives up to it. Even the labs are very well equipped. There are 20+ clubs so it caters to everyone. And there are also a lot of workshops and sports events, basically something is always happening in the campus. Most popular fests are Aloha which is maiy for freshers but everyone can enjoy it usually held in sep-oct and Infinitus which is the cultural fest held during feb-march, there are so many other annula events like paridhaan(ethnic day), natyaswara, udgam(national sports fest), Ameya etc. we have a student council which plans all these and this council is the thing that usually connects all the students. And a new council was newly started which is the alumni council and as mentioned connects the alumni with the campus, the members are all studenta of srm, we also have the ir council which deals with international relations! Even the classrooms all have interactive screens and white boards too for ease of access!
Admission
I applied to only 2 colleges and not gonna lie srm was my last choice, I wanted to get into bits pilani, but unfortunately couldn't crack the entrance exam, so the only other option available for me was srm. To get into this college you need to have 60% pcm in your secondary and have to write the srmjee exam, based on your rank and the course you want to opt for they will let you know if you are eligible or not, the admission experience was a breeze tbh, because once you finalise a course, you get the payment option with a deadline, once done you just wait for an email that asks you to upload all your files and details and they will check and let you know if you did anything wrong and that's basically it, you just wait for the college to start. But in the end even though srm was my last choice it turned out to be the best for me and I don't think I regret it once
Faculty
The course curriculum is pretty relevant and again we all study one course a semester from different departments and either (Art of listening speaking and writing) or Aptitude each semester, usually there are 7 subjects a semester. The exams depends on the subject and faculty, if the faculty decides you only have to give one exam, then one it is and if they decide it's five then you have ti give five, usually tho we have 3 class assessments, 1 mid term and 1 end term but again they sometimes give assignments whixh is considered as class assessment and sometimes mid term is cancelled for a subject. The professor I really like is Dr.GVP Bhagat singh sir, he just recently stepped down as the hod of our department, but he's such a great professor and an even better hod. He teachers really really well and is very patient and gentle. The professor I really did not like was dr. Choiti bandopadhyay or dr. subhashree datta, they both teach math, it's just their delivery is not very clear.
