What Students Say
Likes
- I like the culture and environment of the college as all the festivals are celebrated and lots of events keep going on. Students are encouraged to put stalls, participate in competitions.
- It’s really safe for girls inside the campus and they can wear what they want and be creative with their clothes
- Opportunities like modelling for shoots and interning for pop ups keep coming which give good exposure
Dislikes
- Too much work and with events going on it gets really hectic
- The faculty is nice but you’ll have to push and nag them if you really want to learn. They won’t take too much effort on their own
- Job through college placements is really difficult and the opportunities are less. It’s better to find one on your own.
Course Curriculum Overview
I wanted to take fashion design but knitwear is the future of fashion and most of the basic curriculum is same for fashion and knitwear. We just deal with knitted fabrics and they explore more variety of fabrics.
Internships Opportunities
The college doesn't really provide internship opportunities, if you're in good terms with a professor you can get internships through connections or hustle on your own. College isn't responsible for internships between semesters but they do encourage you to take up internships and guide you what all you can do to get those.
Placement Experience
On campus placements are not very helpful. It's better if you build a strong portfolio according to your line of interest and search for jobs through connections or on your own. Campus placements are fine but you'll get more and better opportunities if you go out there to find jobs or internships in your own.
Fees and Financial Aid
Yearly tuition fee for general category is around 4 lakhs and for NRI/NRI sponsor is around 10 lakhs. On top of that there's a refundable security deposit of around 15 thousand. For sc/st there are schemes and most part of their fees is waved off.
Campus Life
The infrastructure is pretty good, all classrooms and labs are air conditioned and you can work in labs till late nights also you just have to get permission to keep it open for longer. There are a lot of different clubs like cultural, adventure, sports, esse, and each club introduces themselves in the start and you can choose whichever you think you'd fit in. The campus life is really fun with all the events and parties going on.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel is pretty affordable and meal quality is average. Don't expect too much but it's better than what other hostels get. Hostel rooms are pretty big and since the temperature here remains pleasant a good fan does the work.
Admission
I applied to all other reputed private colleges and cleared all the entrances but nift has a reputation that none of the other colleges do in case of design, so when I cleared nift entrance I didn't think of other colleges at all.
Faculty
In knitwear department the faculty to student ratio is 1:5. The faculty is pretty approachable and we have mentor sessions every week to discuss our problems with faculty. For exams we have jury, no one really fails in jury but if you have low attendance then you might have to give the jury again after 2 months.
