What Students Say
Likes
- Although there are many things and availabilities that I liked, starting with highly educated faculty members. Professors are quite helpful and engaging when it comes to assignments and projects. They explain the concept really well ad comprehensive.
- Secondly, I liked the appropriate labs, chemicals and equipments which are available there for students to use, whereas in other colleges these additionals are provided just for show not for use.
- Thirdly, I loved the campus life at CU, the campus is clean and green always. Several eateries are made available there, such as FR, Food Republic, It is one of the best place to spend time with friends, to have celebrations with good food available.
Dislikes
- 1. I think the point of increasing the fees is really upsetting as it were not so affordable before also. One needs to belong to more than average family to study here.
- 2. Some times, there is lack of chemicals and lab machines which are needed for biological experiments. So they should be provided timely.
- 3. Many times the hostel wardens are not enough educated and they are just given the jobs because of some references which in my view is not really good. Wardens must learn management and how to behave with students which is not upto the mark at CU.
Course Curriculum Overview
My course was B.Sc. Biotechnology, which is more lab based and lesser theory but still I think theory needs to taught in detail so that students can use their knowledge later on in industries and jobs. Also, the syllabus is covered with the help of ppts by teachers which is not appropriate in my POV, they should also include bookish learnings for students. The frequency and timming of exams is also not good. Mst 1 are held just after 15 days of the start of the semester and MSt 1 are held in the second month of the semester.
Placement Experience
Students doing BS Biotechnology are given placement chances from 5th semester when several companies arrives at the campus for placements. But salary packages are not great. Companies like Root analysis, IDS Infotech and Serum Institute of India visited the campus. Highest package offered to one student was 4.5 Lakhs and average package was between 2.5 to 3 Lakhs which also was only offered to 2 3 students, luckily I was one of them. My plans after my degree is to go for MBA and I am preparing for CAT Exam now.
Fees and Financial Aid
At Chandigarh University, I had completed my B.Sc. in Biotechnology. The faculty and labs are really great. Faculty members are well educated but sometimes, they lack equipments in the lab which are provided later on. Secondary, My fees structure was 40000 as semester fees and additional 2000 as Exam fees. Apart from this, I also opted for hostel facility for which fees was 1,20,000 for the year. The negative point here was that hostel fees was needed to be paid fully in one go. I recommend that installments must be there. This fees was for 3 seater non ac room. Now fees are increased for both hostel as well academic fees. It is 60000 now as academic fees and 150000 as hostel fees.
Campus Life
CU is generally famous for its campus life only, various fests and events are held at CU from the start, freshers is there when various punjabi and bollywood stars visit the campus and entertain students. Then annual fests are held by different clubs. Students clubs are available there for students to join and socialize well.
Hostel Facilities
Hostels of CU are not so good not so bad. I was living at Tagore Girls Hostel. My room was 4 seater non ac. I was given a single bed, an almirah, a study table, a chair and cooler(1 in 1 room) . The meals were average, nutrition was took into consideration along with the taste. Everyday different dishes are made such as Paneer Do Pyaza, Yellow Daal, Green Daal, Moong Daal, Aloo Zeera Sabji, Aloo matar, Aloo Gobi, etc. Registeration process for hostel is quite simple. Students need to register for hostels on Cuims which is university's online portal and fees to be paid.
Admission
Actually in my case, I was about to move abroad for my graduation after 12th but didnt made it because of family issues and at that time, all the colleges had their applications closed. I didnt had any other college to apply to, only CU was the one accepting students till October-November. So I took admission here.
Faculty
The faculty members at CU are really well educated. Almost all of them are PHD holders and rest are Phd Scholars, which is a good point. But few among them are some times non cooperative as well. -The faculty to student ratio is 1:50 generally. -There are some proffesors whom I liked such as Dr. Gaurav Mudgal, Dr. Vipasha, Dr. Pitambhari , Dr. Balvir and Dr. Apurva Kaul. -All of them are really soft spoken, helps in projects and assignments, give students opportunities to write review and research papers, which help students in their future. - Exams are generally easier at CU if one really studies before exam. Whole syllabus is covered by faculties during the classes. But one thing which is really disappointing is RELATIVE MARKING, it ruins the cgpa as students are given grades on the basis of topper's marks and lowest marks in the class. This is not really fair and should be ENDED asap!
