What Students Say?
Likes
- The ratio of boys to girls in my course is almost equal so it was never an issue for MSc chemistry students.
- The infrastructure and scenery is one of the most beautiful one that I have seen for any college.
Dislikes
- The curriculum is very difficult to cope up with. It is very stressful to deal with the pressure of this course.
- There is less practicality in the course and more like mugging up of the majority of things which the student won't understand
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum is sometimes very difficult and very weird , as if it has 0 use in real life applications but otherwise the topics taught by teachers are up to date research topic or recent theory and developments. The final year project is also there which helps a student of he/she wanted to pursue PhD in future. Difficulty of exams is moderate to difficult and there are 3 type of exams in a semester: mid sem exams , end sem exams, assignments and classtests.
Internships Opportunities
Companies like byjus, akash, allen approach at the end semester, which is majorly edtech companies that require masters students. You can apply for internships by yourself under a teacher or under another professors if you have connections. You can also take research projects from professors all over the world.
Placement Experience
The placement cell is very active towards BTech students but for our course only edtech companies approach and many students are not interested in that as they either want to work in industrial companies or they want to pursue PhD. So in campus placement is very less and majority of the students take jobs outside the campus on their own. Average package a person can get is 6 LPA And it can go higher depending on the qualification and experience. Companies like byjus, akash , allen approach every year. You can apply for placements from the first semester itself.
Fees and Financial Aid
Yearly fees : 84000 Rs(42000 Rs per semester) In this 42000 Rs per semester fees the distribution is as follows : Hostel mess fees : 21000 Rs Medical fee : 1000 Rs Hostel accomodation fee: 7500 Rs Tuition fee: 3000 Rs Semester charges: 10500 Rs However the total fees for SC/ST is 38000Rs per semester. For non residing and non dining category it is 10,500 Rs The fees can fluctuate a little bit but there is not any Major difference You can apply for scholarships like Inspire etc.which can be applied through NSP portal
Campus Life
The cultural fest is Thomso and it is second most famous fest in IITs. There is also a tech fest called cognizance and a sports fest called sangram. Apart from there other cultural activities happen time to time. Festivals are celebrated with a lot of zest and people are very enthusiastic in every function. The sports facilities like valleyball, badminton, swimming, cricket, football etc. is top notch. There are clubs for students to join and the Himalayan explorers club takes students on a trip every once in a while. Movie screenings are also there in the convocation hall after every 2 weeks.
Hostel Facilities
The facilities provided in our hostel room (for my hostel particularly) are: A bed, cupboard, study desk, chair , a shelf for books, private balcony, wifi, laundry room, gymroom, day and night canteen, curtains, study room. Meal quality: 7/10 Menu is very diverse and it changes frequently
Admission
To get admission into this college you have to clear JAM(Joint admission test for masters) and get a good score to land this college. This is one of the top 5 IITs and I knew someone who was pursuing the same course so that's why I chose this college as it is close to my hometown too. It has one of the most beautiful campus and hostels are pretty nice too. The festivals, the cultural and fest activities are also celebrated in a brilliant manner.
Faculty
There are 3 type of examinations: mid sem exams , end sem exams and CWS( basically classtests, assignment). All of these make up the final score. The teachers are very different from one another so you can't say how each and every teacher is , as it is pretty diverse thing to answer. The exam difficulty level is moderate to hard. Many students get back in exams or they have to repeat/drop a course. The course is sometimes relevant otherwise there are few courses which have no use after studying them.
