Course Curriculum Overview
I wanted to something impactful in the medical field that isn't MBBS or BDS. I got to know from my high school senior who was studying in Yenepoya University that they are providing BPH. After I read a bit about the course, I got interested and immediately applied online. The curriculum covers all areas of public health. However this programme in the university doesn't provide students much opportunities to learn how to apply theory into practice. The course is semester based. Since it's a three year course, there are six semester. And apart from the university exams, there are two internal exams for each semester from which marks are taken into account. Although the exams aren't much difficult, questions outside the syllabus are expected for the semester exams.
Fees and Financial Aid
In the first year, the course fee is Rs. 1,20,000. The course fee for the second and third year is 65,000. Financial assistance is provided for students from a poor financial background. Twenty-five to 50% discount is available for students who secured 90% above for their class 12 exam. However, the tuition fee increases every year.
Campus Life
The university has various campuses. The main campus is situated in Deralakatte, and is filled with nature. There are sports days and other programmes every year. There are various clubs and I was part of the university toastmasters club. It has tremendously improved my leadership and communication skills. The central library, which functions from 8am to 12 am, also has an underground floor for journals and study purposes. There's also small digital library within the central library for those who want to use computers or need print-outs.
Admission
Any student with a minimum of 65% in class 12 (any stream) can apply. There is no requirement for any enterance exams. Applications can be done either online by the applicant or through agents. There will a minimum booking fee which has to be given at the time of the application. The applicant will have to go to the campus with the required documents after an e-mail mentioning date and venue is recieved, from where the application process will be complete.
Faculty
There will be two internal exams and one university exam every semester. This was the case for teh first five semester. In the last (sixth) semester, we had to do dissertation- a cross-sectional study of our choice. Mr. Amrut R.H, who was the coordinator of the department was really helpful and supportive throughout the program.
