Course Curriculum Overview

2.5

MBBS course is four and half years long and these whole years is full of stress and emotional outburst. Portions covered are so vast which is covered in a minimum of 10 -13 months in the first three years and on one and half years on the fourth year. So there is no enough time for a student to study all these topics . KUHS has never been student friendly.

Internships Opportunities

3

We can do internship in the health centres and hospitals under Medical college trivandrum after passing out fourth year for one year . We will get stipend over 27000 rupees monthly . There are department wise postings and the work load during this period is a mess with limited number of holidays which may again stress us out. There can be 24 hr postings and all which can drain interns . But still this is the period where we truly enter the community as doctors so it would be emotionally satisfying to treat patients and make them better .

Fees and Financial Aid

Tution fees for each year is approximately above 22000 rupees . There are also other fees for exam fees and additional amount has to be paid for books which can be up to 10000 rupees . There are also scholarships for students for economically backward communities and based on caste . For certain communities full tution fee gets refunded once the scholarship is granted while certain other communities doesn't even have to pay the tution fees . These tution fees are certainly low when compared to MBBS tution fee in other states. Internship can be done in hospitals under medical college like Primary health center or other general hospitals from which there is a stipend of about 27000 rupees monthly but the workload during this period too par the level .

Campus Life

5

Campus life is the little happy things that happens in the between those academic stress. In Trivandrum Medical college (TMC) there are various celebrations happening throughout the year like Holi , Valentines day , Onam celebrations , Halloween , New year celebrations. There is an yearly inter batch culturals known as euphoria which is truly colorful with lots of exciting events . The college also makes us ready to participate in intercollegiate culturals. There is 2 college grounds with limited facilities where students can join any sport and train in it . There are also interbatch athletics and intercollegiate events for each sport like kho kho , volleyball , basketball etc. There are so many clubs in the college including Queer club ,Dance club , Music Club , Literary Club , Theatre Events Club , Oratory Club , Quiz club etc. These clubs are active and programmes are conducted timely and student participation is ensured in every club activities . Library is filled with all book

Hostel Facilities

2

Hostel facility is poor with very congested rooms even 9 people in a room . Hostel infrastructure is also not that good. There are bunk beds and single beds in the room with two fans which makes hard for students to live in summer season . Meals order is taken in contract which is also not that good . Food quality and quantity is limited and is not for everyone's tastebuds . Hostel is affordable and is available for all students . There is only a rent of 50 rupees per month . Mess fees should be 110 rupees per day . There can be additional establishment fee and fee for additional facilities like wifi . There are also so much PGs available nearby .

Admission

Admission in to the college is via All INDIA NEET exam which is held yearly . NEET exam difficulty level has been easy to moderate these years . So there have been large number of students with high marks thus having high cut offs . NTA has been conducting NEET exam over the years and application form its verifications fees all are done through NTA website . Eligibility for writing the NEET exam is getting passed the twelth grade on biology chemistry physics subjects . There is reservation for communities during the allotment process . Admission have always been hectic , the documents to be submitted and the fees should be paid within days after getting allotted to college . Admission is held in three phases and after that there is also spot allotment to fill in the rest of medical seats.

Faculty

5

For lecture hours all students sit together so the faculty to student ratio is 1 :250 so attention to students may be reduced. But after that there are separate practical sessions where 250 students are divided into batches of four each batch consisting of 65 or 66 students. In those practical sessions there are 1 or 2 teachers so the faculty to student ratio is 1:33 so faculty given attention to each one of them and are well taught and mananged. There are separate mentor groups in each subjects where each faculty mentors 20 students and help them out academically and emotionally. The faculty does weekly meetings and small group discussions are conducted on some academic topics. This helps student to improve their knowledge and skill. Faculties are well educated and have medical experience of over our age so they are well motivated and enthusiastic to make us study. Some Faculties are really friendly and we can even contact them for doubts on phone .

Course Curriculum Overview:

Doctors are always a need for the society. The curriculum deals mainly in healing people which attracted me towards it. The curriculum has specific competencies a student should achieve in order to be competent as an Indian Medical Graduate. These competencies are set of skills every student should acquire. Teaching should be more practical oriented and theory should be reduced. More competencies should be included. Frequency of exams doesnt affect much. but portions to be studied for each exams are bit heavy. Difficulty level is moderate to hard

Even though a bit tight and rushy, this is in fact the best curriculum provided and followed by all medical colleges in kerala. The frequency of exam is high and difficulty level is as same as that of KUHS. This provides relevant experience for the students to weite the university exams

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course facilitates learning in each and every department of the medical college which gives us accessibility on how each wing works..giving us an idea to help decide where we see our future. Since we start clinical practice from our 2nd year and interactions with the patients continously it prepares us for almost every situation, since it is a government college we see all kinds of people from all backgrounds, giving us a different type of exposure. Some departments have fewer faculty making it difficult for them to care for the students and patients at the same time so the students maybe left unattended. Exams occur almost on a monthly basis, some harder than the others, but all are quite easy to pass with adequate studying.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum of our study is prepared by National medical council and all the government medical colleges and private medical colleges in India are compelled to follow their rules. I like medical profession because I really likes the biology I opted it. The teaching method in government medical colleges are little bit different from that of our schools since we have clinical classes to handle also other professors are very good at teaching us by the aids of projection. MBBS courses very difficult to study also very interesting to study we have early basis exams in which each exam is conducted it the end of the year since the course is five and half years, in which four and half years of teaching and one year of internship.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose MBSS out of my own personal interest. However bewarned, it is not for everyone. Its a very hectic life. There are much less faculty available for each student but that is the case in every medical college. All faculty are mbbs, PG and PSC passed. They are very dedicated, if free from other works. Exams are very plenty, almost too much for most students. Passing an exam itself is a hurdle for most people and all subjects are indeed hard to cover

Faculties teaching in the First year min qualification is a master of science in the particular subject and from the second year onwards the minimum qualification is MBBS for every faculty. Three exams per year and you have to pass any one exam to write in university exam and it's somewhat difficult to pass if you start studying at last
