What Students Say
Likes
- The teaching staff and the clinical staff encourage and include undergraduate students for theoretical research/review right from the 1st academic Yr.
Dislikes
- Lectures conducted in the afternoon for 3rd and 4th Yr feels tiresome. These lectures should be rather conducted in morning hours.
- Limited canteen service. Hospital should have own separate canteen for clinical staff and students.
Course Curriculum Overview
Like many others, for me dentistry was not the first choice but definitely a better choice to pursue after clearing NEET-UG. The curriculum includes clinical work i.e. working on patients right from the 3rd Yr, I think that's what makes the students better prepared even before completing graduation. Additionally, students are given information about recent updates and newer researches in dentistry. Newer teaching methods using AI and online teaching should be promoted for theory lectures. Maximum hours should be given for clinical practice.
Fees and Financial Aid
The tuition fee at the time of my admission in 2019 was 3,20,000 and there was no hike for my batch and it remained same for my batch. Students from reserved category get waiver in fees. Interns get a monthly stipend of around 500/- which can be withdrawn at the end of internship. It is low as compared to the amount of time spent at the hospital throughout the year.
Campus Life
Anually, sports and cultural events are conducted in college which last for about 15 days. The college authorities need to spend more amount of budget on these activities and events. Within the classrooms, smart TVs with wifi connection are installed in last 2 yrs. So lectures are conducted using PPTs and digital white boards. Furthermore students should be provided 5 minutes snack breaks between lectures and freebies on campus.
Admission
The application process was entirely done online as per the government rules and guidelines. The admission process is smooth and the authorities are transparent about eligibility if students applied and preference is given to students based on scores and AIR in NEET-UG, also the 12th grade percentage.
Faculty
The faculty includes only well-qualified dentists or specialists. They offer non-clinical research opportunities to students for 1st and 2 nd Yr. From 3rd Yr onwards clinical exposure is given to students and are allowed to do patients. The staff ia polite and available to students regarding any clinical doubts at all time. Alumini guidance program has started during Covid times. Every month at least one alumini, studying/working as dentists in India or other countries are invited as guest speaker. Students and Interns can directly contact them for further guidance. Most of the staff (if not all) is approachable any time, even after college hours. Whatsapp groups are made to update Interns and fresh graduates about job vacancies in local clinics as well as in other cities. Regular and detailed updates are provided.
Other Applied Colleges
SMBT Institute of Dental Sciences & Research | Bachelor of Dental Surgery [BDS]
Accessibility to this college is difficult for someone who has not opted for hostel. Besides, the clinical exposure during internship is limited pertaining to distant location of the institute.
