a glance as a student in srmist

the curriculum is well structured, with the aim to provide and impart practical and hands on knowledge using skills that we can even approach in real life problems. practical experience is also gained along the course curriculum. the examinations held are decent.

internship opportunities really depends on how it's approached. you could be working as a student researcher along with a professor in their research labs, assist them or their students (seniors/phd scholars) with their projects going on, assist with tasks, gain knowledge and skills. you could also get opportunities through them for other internships.this is how it's been for some of my friends. you can also get their references ig for some internships. there's also other ways you yourself could approach for internships, whether they be with or without stipend.

i have no clue regarding placement opportunities since there's not much really for biotechnology department as such. there are decent placement offers in the final year for those who opt cse, ece, eee etc so if you're a btech student, you're still eligible for IT related placements. if you plan to pursue masters (as i am), your professors help to guide you to the steps involved.

the fees are decent, especially in btech (engineering) degree. if you consistently get a very good cgpa they do give merit based scholarships for the following academic year. they definitely do hike the fees a little every year, which is normal but there's not much to say in this matter really. regarding employment or job roles, it depends, if you're working with a professor in their research lab etc and helping around or contributing to the current projects and all.

there are numerous clubs available and run by students. dsa, placement cell, music, art, dance, sports etc are all there. fests like aaruush and Milan are the mainstream ones. there is a lot, just that the main student body clubs are a little meh when it comes to fest management and all, and extra curricular activities, etc aren't rlly day scholar friendly i'd say?

the admission process was done via srmjee, which is remote proctored and conducted in three phases. the deadlines are available in the college's website. timings and questions provided are at a decent level i'd say.

almost all the professors are phd holders/pursuing phd, hence a lot of them are very research oriented and this helps especially for approaching regarding core research heavy areas (esp in biotech). they do teach well and it's interesting with the content being taught. if you are sincere enough, they are approachable. the laboratory faculties are often more approachable, whenever you want to have a one on one talk regarding what you're interested in, etc. the phd scholars are also very helpful for lab sessions and guide us well.
