Course Curriculum Overview

2

I personally wanted to take CSE but changed it during the last moment of counselling due to parents insistence. So I haven't taken a look into the curriculum before joining. After joining, I always felt the syllabus is good enough to bring out a decent civil engineer which includes practicals. But after my internship with two different companies in my 3rd and 4th year, I realised that it's quite different what we learn in the classroom and what's really practiced on the ground. It might look funny that the workers who would be working below a civil engineer would have a better knowledge than a fresher or experienced graduate holder. Heard it's similar in other colleges too but SRM seems pretty awful in this segment. Frequency of the exams and timings are fine. Just that, Semester exam is common for all campuses and it's set by KTR Campus faculties. So the students from KTR has a upper hand in scoring good grades.

Placement Experience

1.5

The placements are common for all the Campuses which will be held in KTR campus. Preference is given over the KTR students than other campuses during the placements. Companies do come to Ramapuram campus too but the highest package was 3 LPA and also jobs offered were for sales and BPO. Placements are pretty disappointing. Especially for core industries like mechanical and civil.

Fees and Financial Aid

The tution fee was 160000 for us and IT dept. But for other branches, it used to be 185000. Provided you come with writing SRMJEE. Apart from that, they charge 15000 annually for Books and 150000 for Value added classes, it basically teaches required softwares. But both are basically a scam, we get better coaching for half the rate outside. And coming to books we won't be using few of them and if all the MRPs are added, it's less than what we have paid for. During the fourth year, all we receive is a blazer, shirt, pant and tie for the 15000 book fee. There are few scholarship for those who get top grades. But haven't seen personally anyone from my dept who had got it. There isn't any campus employment inside the campus.

Campus Life

1.5

Infrastructure wise Ramapuram campus is pretty bad.10 -13 buildings is all you get in the campus. Without a proper ground. Club activities do happen on weekends. We used to okay football as well as cricket on a basketball court. Basketball court used to be the ground for small event activities for dept symposiums. You can find decent amount of journals and books on library. Club activities are pretty good. Starting a new club might be a tedious process. But apart from that rest everything should be good. SRM Ramapuram didn't have a fest for 3 years between 2015-2018. Post that Arvinth Kumar civil 3rd year & Nithin Alexander mechanical 4th year along with their team fought for the students to bring technical and cultural event back to college. Worst part is in this campus is, students are supposed to wear formal dress.

Admission

Admission process was good enough. Application form was available on their website and it was an online exam too for SRMJEE. The exams seems decent enough for me in terms of difficulty level. Being a backbencher, all you need to put was an extra effort for a month to crack the exam and get inside KTR campus. One area of improvement would be, if the candidate gets a good SRMJEE rank then why do they check the PCM percentage for KTR campus. If would be great if that could be changed.

Faculty

2.5

The faculties were pretty friendly. The faculty to students ratio seems to be okay too. On paper, all the faculties credentials are good enough but few or most faculties lack teaching skills. For instance, none of our classmates or other batchmates knew how to use Formulas in steel and how to use the code book too because of our teacher. No use of complaining. Interaction and approachability with teachers are good. They are easily approachable. Only a very few teachers who take the college bus won't be available post college hours other than that, they are always there for you.

Other Applied Colleges

Amity University | Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Civil Engineering)

Students can join job drives from the 7th term. Many firms visit the campus for jobs and offer roles in tech and other fields. The pay varies by firm and role. EEC has a good job rate and gives help for job prep. After my degree, I plan to work in the tech field and grow my skills.

Placement Experience:

Students are open to campus placements from 2nd year onwards. There are many companies who visit such as Delloite, Accenture, Cognizant, TCS, Amazon, NatWest, Nokia, etc. Highest package offered is 42 lpa and lowest is maybe 2-4lpa. Around 90% of students get placed here. My plans is to get a job through campus recruitment. Currently I got an internship through campus recruitment in Cognizant so the recruitment is quite nice here.

Placement Experience:

One thing I really need to appreciate at CIT is its placement training program. The placement team conducts regular sessions on 1. aptitude 2. coding 3. communication skills 4. group discussions and 5. interview preparation which helped me feel more confident during placements. The trainers were friendly and always encouraged us to improve our skills step by step. They provide continuous guidance and feedback throughout the training process. Mock interviews and one to one assessments helped me to understand my strength and weak areas and I work on improvements . These sessions not only improved my technical and communication skills but also boosted my confidence . The placement training team played an important role in preparing me for career opportunities and industry expectation

Chennai Institute of Technology is an instituition that truly prioritizes student career growth . The placement cell is exceptionallu well-organized ,consistently connecting students with reputed companies across various industries. What makes CIT stood out is the quality of its training staff. They focus heavily on communication , technical knowledge and competitive preparation ,align students with what top companies expect ,and contiuosly push us to improve and meet industry standards. Their structured training helped me to clearly identify my strengths and work on my weak areas, which made a huge difference during interviews and boosted my overall confidence. The department faculty are equally commnedable ,knowledgable ,approachable and genuinely invested in student career. Overall CIT is an excellent choice for anyone focused on building a strong and sucessful career
