What Students Say?
Likes
- Less restrictions: There is no such thing as intime and out time for hostels. If the students are responsible enough, this rule is a big plus when it comes to studying purposes.
- Supportive faculty: The faculty are very friendly and are available for discussions. Their knowledge in the subjects is very deep.
Dislikes
- Mess food: The quality of the food being served is never good.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum is well designed. As said before, most of the faculty are well versed in their fields. The course projects in most of the courses help us in better understanding. Through these projects, we'll be introduced to a lot of softwares as well. You can also contact a faculty for some project to improve your resume. But, most of the faculty, especially in civil department, are strict about attendance. A minimum of 80% is to be maintained. Most of the lab courses are rigorous. We feel tiring doing the lab work and the amount of work done doesn't match up to the number of credits we earn.
Internships Opportunities
Oncampus recruitment process for internships starts from 5th semester. For civil students, there are a good number of companies like L&T, NHAI coming for internships. If any student is interested in persuing a non core internship, the department is very welcoming and gives permission.
Placement Experience
The placement process starts from the 7th semester. The placements in the college during the recession period were not very good for core as well. Most of the students from my department are unplaced. A lot of us are going for higher education. Just to make the numbers look good, the Placement Officer is bringing any and every company. None of us are placed in core jobs. One person bagged a software job, a few got into institutes like Allen. During the non recession period, most of the seniors got placed well. For students who choose to sit for software jobs from the core departments, well there are a good share of companies which are open for core branches as well. Develop good projects and you will be mostly able to get a software job. Coming to internships, the internship season starts from 5th semester. Good number of companies come for internships. Expect low to no stipend in core and a you are good to go when it comes to core internships.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions
I am a general category student with income above 5lpa. So I need to pay around 1.1 lakhs tuition fee per sem and about 50k for hostel and mess fee. You can visit the website to get to know other categories fee. Most of the scholarships awarded are for the sc,st and ews category students. As I am not eligible for them, I have little to no idea. Again, visiting the website will be helpful.
Campus Life
The awards and recognitions speak volumes about the infrastructure. The department blocks are great except that female students need to walk a lot of distance from their hostels to reach there. Carrying an umbrella irrespective of the season is recommended. The library facility is great with a lot of books, research papers and journals. All the labs are well equipped with all the required machines and systems. There are a lot of cultural, technical and sports clubs being run by the students currently. If any of the students come up with an idea for a new club idea, being a new IIT, the idea will be considered and implemented accordingly.
Hostel Facilities
The college is far from the city and there are no PGs available near the college. So, hostel is the only option as of now. For girls, it will be a two sharing or three sharing room and irrespective of the room size, the hostel fees will be the same. The rooms ae spacious enough and are well maintained as well. Mess food is average. Students tend to get bored easily.
Admission
As everyone knows, to get into our college on needs to first clear JEE Mains and then get a good rank in JEE Advanced. I got a rank of 11k in JEE Advanced. But I don't know the current cutoff trend. For the most recent cutoff ranks, visiting JOSAA website will be beneficial.
Faculty
Most of the civil engineering department faculty are quite knowledgeable and very friendly. Most of them have done their Ph.D. in IITs and a few of them in well-renowned foreign universities. We are assigned with a professor as a faculty advisor from the first year. The more we interact with them, the better we get to know about the opportunities. For a student who is really into civil engineering, this college is really a blessing given the knowledge of the faculty and the projects offered. And yeah, the director himself is from the civil department.
