- The hostel management is really poor at IIT BHU.
- The administration is poor. There is not enough safety.
Course Curriculum Overview
Not just of IIT BHU, but the curriculum of all the IITs are great(as they produce the best engineers accross the world). The curriculum offers a lot of freedom and flexibility in between different branches. There is definitely more techincal and practical knowledge involved as compared to other colleges. The teaching methods can be improved for sure. Exams are a bit on the difficult side as they assume we remember everything that we studied during JEE.
Internships Opportunities
The internship here at IIT BHU depends a lot on the CPI scored by the students. The companies often put a barrier on the CPI below which they don't provide internships. However, the non-core companies offer internships at lower CPIs sometimes.
Placement Experience
The placements at IIT BHU are mind blowing. The highest package was 1.68 crores in 2023. This figure might get bigger the upcoming year because the placement in 2k23 was not really successful in all the IITs.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions
The reservation candidates have 100% waiver in the tution fees and for those candidates (without reservation) the tution fees is decided on the basis of the family income. If the family income is exceptionally less then the tution fee is 100% waiver too. However, the hostel and mess fee is compulsary for all. A lot of companies like samsung, Microsoft etc. offer scholarships to students.
Campus Life
To be honest, initially when I reported at IIT BHU, my expectations about an IIT were deeply shaken. The infrastructure here at IIT BHU is not very nice. It has a great religious and peaceful vibe, but not comparable to that of new IITs. The hostels are old. The peer group is decent so there no trouble related to the social life. The clubs too are great and have a big potential. However, if the management utilises the funds provided effectively, then things might be better here.
Hostel Facilities
There are many hostels here. Talking about the first year hostel- Aryabhatta, this hostel is having one of the most stupid management and administration I've ever seen. They don't treat the students we'll and don't meet their needs often! Mess is really nice.
Admission
For getting admission into any IIT in India, one has to clear the Joint entrance examination (JEE Advance). This exam is ranked the hardest exam in India and the second hardest exam in the world. This exam tests knowledge in three subjects - Physics, Chemistry and maths. There is an overall cutoff in the exam (about 30% of the maximum marks) and individual cutoffs of the respective subjects(about 5-10% of the maximum marks in each subject). If a student clears both the cutoffs and gets a decent rank, he'll be able to get admission at IIT BHU through JOSAA counselling. Through JOSAA counselling we can opt various courses at many IITs in India. The only thing I hated about the admission process is the management. The admission process can be simplified by reducing the no. of documents required and facilitating the fee deposition process(as many a times it shows payment failure).
