Course Curriculum Overview
Most faculty members are Ph.D. holders. As a part of the curriculum, the students are given marked assignments/projects almost every semester. Workshops are organized from time to time with media experts being the hosts or the key speakers. The workshops are usually to keep the students updated about the skills required as per the recent market trends and sometimes they're also about social issues that the students need to be aware of. Occasionally, field trips are organized. The professors are quite approachable when it comes to solving doubts. Passing the exams is surely a cakewalk and given that the preparation for the same is not delayed till the last minute, one can score quite well. Since most of the topics of the course are quite general, one need not worry too much about not referring to the books prescribed by the faculty and can also study the topics from various sources on the internet.
Internships Opportunities
Students either find internships themselves or through the contacts of professors. The formal internship as a part of the curriculum usually begins in February However, it is not possible and also not a guarantee that every student will be able to secure an internship through any given professor's contact or recommendation. Therefore, students planning to study here are requested to not completely place their hopes on the contacts of the professors for securing an internship and start searching for them themselves online or through their contacts as early as November/December. Some common internship roles that students get offered include, but are not limited to, Copywriter, Social Media Executive, PR intern, Journalism intern, Photojournalism intern, Digital marketing intern, and corporate communication intern. Paid internships are quite rare to come by. Students are not guaranteed to get employed where they are interning.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions
The course costs INR 28,020/ year, which is quite affordable. The faculty doesn't have campus placements or a recruitment drive. Jobs are either found by the students themselves or through the contacts/ recommendations of the professors. However, here securing an internship or a job through the professors' contact for each student is not possible due to some reasons.
Campus Life
Kaafila is the annual fest of the Faculty of Journalism and Communication. It is usually held in February. It is usually held over two to three days and draws a lot of crowds. I feel like the classrooms require a proper seating arrangement for the students like the rest of the faculties. It even feels quite uncomfortable to sit on them for a long time. Students can use Wi-fi after registering for it. Since the faculty is quite small, there are no sporting events or activities. However, the students celebrate festivals such as Garba(Navratri), Kite-flying, and even on Holi on campus. A student club has been established a year ago which occasionally organizes various social events and also invites various speakers for workshops.
Admission
All Graduates, irrespective of their discipline are eligible for this course. The admission is subject to a candidate's performance in the entrance test, 60% of which is essay writing and objective questions comprise the remainder of it.
