Remarks
Though considered unreasonably strict in a few fields of values, Karunya does what is in the best interest of the student's future.
Entrance Preview
I had taken up KEE 2014. I was interested in taking up Media as my core subject and Karunya was the only university in south India that offered such a course. (as a Btech course)
Course Curriculum Overview
We have a website called courses.karunya.edu where each student is given an account and the information pertaining to that particular field of science. This enhances the chances and possibilities of better understanding amongst students. The first couple of years were centred mainly on the basic fundamentals of the subject and enriched the roots of our academics and engineering lives.
Internships Opportunities
Our college on its own does not provide internship, to the best of my knowledge. But there are international organisations like IAESTE that provide students the opportunity to intern anywhere across the globe.
Placement Experience
Karunya University boasts a very high percentile in placements as recorded by the past couple of years with a variety of companies (core as well as IT). Yet there have been complaints arising from departments such as EMT and Food Processing for the lack of companies coming their way.
College Events
We basically have two big events. One is Mindcraft which is a National level techno management event comprising of technical and non technical events which is attended by different universities. The second is KEMT which is a sports meet conducted by our universities which provide a wide variety of sport events.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Though we have a standard fee structure which could be considered feasible, some wouldn't mind calling it quite atrocious. Odd semesters- Rs 1,45,000 Even semesters- Rs 65,000 (This applies to only our batch- 2014-2018 batch) The fee structure varies from year to year.
Fees and Financial Aid
I haven't received any sort of scholarship as of yet but I do know a couple of friends who have received loan facilities by the university.
Campus Life
The university can best be named as a classic Christian university that follows the norms seen in Christian colleges. Though predominantly Christian, the university is secular in nature and supports all religions equally. Campus life is quite fun with a system that is ever-changing that keeps the students on their toes at all times. Workshops are held at equal intervals in all fields of sciences.
Hostel Facilities
I would say that the hostel facilities and mess food is acceptable, especially when compared to other universities around. The variety in mess options definitely helps a lot. We have- International, North (veg and non veg) and South (veg and non veg). The mess fees is approximately Rs 15,000 per semester.
Alumni/Alumna
We have an Alumni cell that works solely for this purpose. It is constituted of a panel of students with a faculty member in charge to guide them maintain relationships with the alumni for various reasons.
Exam Structure
We have three internal examinations and one final semester exam which would have a cumulative portion of the previous three internals. The timetable is set in such a way that it does not become an interference to students in their normal college life and also in such a manner that gives breathing space to the students between exams.
Admission
After writing the KEE examination, I awaited for my result. After the results were published, I had received a call letter stating that I had cleared the exam and had to appear for the enrolment day. On that day, I was well informed about the course and its wide range of opportunities. After the enrolment, a few more administrative papers were filled along with the payment of the fees for the first semester.
Faculty
Dedication and passion are two attributes that would best define our faculty members. Their determination to teach the students is quite extra ordinary. They possess information and knowledge in the most complex manner that is simplified in such a manner that students understand and comprehend the substance in an adequate manner.
