The Journey of an International Student at SRMIST, KTR

I chose CSE because it was my subject of interest from the beginning. The student-to-faculty ratio at SRMIST is fairly good as there are a lot of faculties for every domain in the college. However, fitting 70+ students in a class isn't really effective when there's just a single teacher teaching. The class gets out of control quite a few times. The faculties that teach here are mostly Ph.D. graduates if not just Masters' Degree holders. Their teaching methods are modern and they often use ppt and written notes in order to explain the subject matter the best they can. Although there's just a one-semester term exam, we have Cycle Tests for every subject after every 1-2 unit is completed. They're usually 50-mark tests that account for 7.5 out of the 60 marks of internal evaluation. Passing CTs is very easy but in order to score solid marks, one must push himself a bit forward and work a little hard. The teachers usually don't check the CT paper very strictly, at least in my case.

Many companies like Aakash, and Acmegrade offered internships here at SRM but a student only has the time for internships after the first year, The average stipend offered was around 25k which I find really sub-par. if you manage to find a proper provider and have the skill set to get the opportunity, I've seen people get internships worth 60k per month.

Students are eligible in the last year of study for the placements. They are bad enough for a student who enjoyed his whole college time with booze and other mischiefs instead of studying and whose only motive was to have a jolly college life to lead him a highly unsatisfied life, okayish for an average student who somehow made it to the placement interviews without seeking much knowledge about his respected branch and whose motive was more focused in getting a placement instead of knowledge to lead him a decent yet much to be desired life.

I get the privilege of not having to pay any college fees at all, except the mess fees at the place I'm staying. The embassy sends 72k yearly. 48k out of which is usually spent on the payment of mess fees. I couldn't be more grateful for all the facilities that I get here as a Nepali student.

MILAN is an annual fest that is conducted in a huge manner here in around Feb/March. Recently international DJs and actor Nani appeared on the show and it was a huge budget fest. Similarly, Aaruush is a national-level techno-management fest of SRMIST, Kattankulathur. It is one of a kind because it comprises of multi-faceted events ranging from technical to management and sports. Events generally consist of competitions, workshops, speeches by eminent people, etc. It is usually done in October. The UB building classrooms are well occupied with foam chairs and joint desks, ACs, and free Wifi but theres no AC case only in Techpark where most of the classes are done. Similarly getting elevators to get to the 11th and 12th floors where your classes are, won't be so easy. It's usually a climb. There are many sports and ECAs done here like hostel level, into college and intercollege teams. DSA is a club here at SRM which holds many domains like data science, web development, music. literature.

I am an international student from Nepal. As I had straight A's in EPCM, I was eligible for the COMPEX exam (min. is B). So, after the notice for open forms was published by Indian Embassy in Nepal, I applied online and I gave the complex exam done by the Indian Embassy in Nepal where I chose VIT and SRM as my top priority colleges. Luckily my name was shortlisted and allocated for SRMIST a full-ride scholarship with 72000 stipends per year. In SRMIST the admission was completed physically in the International Relations Office where they provide full guidance and clarity. I would rate the admission process 10/10 and no improvement suggestions are there from my side.
