Remarks

Admissions in all the medical colleges of India are through state-level and national-level counselling after the NEET-UG exam. NTA conducts the NEET UG exam once every year generally around May or June After the 12th boards. Those with PCB in 12th can appear for it. After appearing in the neet ug exam which is 720 marks, you get a rank based on marks obtained. You get an All India Rank (AIR). Every medical college has a 15% All India Quota and 85% state quota which is further divided into gen, obc, sc, st, ews reservations. After Neet results, application forms for state counselling and national counselling is released for which you have to apply. These days counselling is online for which you have to lock your college choices and wait for college allotment. In general, till about 7000 rank college is allowed (around 620 marks). There are 3 rounds of counselling which increase your chance of getting into a college. process for counselling is online and very streamlined. Just fill in your choices carefully.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

MBBS is considered a good course considering the rush in other courses. Becoming a doctor is THE course. In KCGMC, Karnal faculty size is less compared to others, but interaction with faculty is better. The faculty-student ratio is around 1:15 which is decent. All the faculty is Postgraduate that is specialist (MD/MS) or superspecialist (Mch). The teaching method is good and even HOD takes classes. Classes are held in a lecture theatre with the whole class. And clinical classes are held in the hospital itself in small batches of 20-25. To pass the exams, you have to study for some time at least and exams are held on time each year.

Internships Opportunities

4

The mandatory internship in the MBBS course is of 1 year and is done in the same Medical College Hospital at the end of the MBBS course. You get clinical hands-on experience with senior doctors and postgraduate students. You are posted in every department during this internship to get an idea of each department which also helps in choosing your pg branch. You can do your internship from the hospital in your hometown if you want but that is less advisable. You work under qualified doctors during your internship and get clinical experience which is a must for a doctor.

Fees and Financial Aid

Course fees are different for each state which can easily be found online. In some states(Delhi, Rajasthan etc) it is as low as 10k pa (for govt college)while in some like Haryana it is 1 lac pa along with an rs10 lac service bond. Fees for private colleges are much more, around 10-20 lac pa. If you are a reserved category student, you can apply for scholarships provided by state and national govt. through your college. You can also apply for an education loan which is issued pretty easily for courses like MBBS. The last year of the MBBS course is an Internship for which you are paid a stipend which again varies from state to state. And is around 10-20 k PM.

Campus Life

3

In KCGMC, the 3-day annual festival is held every year in oct-nov named Endorphin. It has a variety of events including academic events like quizzes, cultural events, sports events, Dj night etc. There is a central Library with almost all the books which are required during MBBS. But you are advised to carry your own books too because you will be needing them throughout and after the course Classrooms here are lecture theatres with all facilities like ac, watercooler, projector for lecture notes and comfortable sitting arrangement. There is a provision for all sports activities in medical colleges but in KCGMC, facilities for indoor games and volley are available. Grounds for outdoor games are still under construction. And apart from endorphins, many festivals are celebrated with cultural performances. There are cultural clubs, and sports clubs in college but these are not much active.

Hostel Facilities

4

The hostels of KCGMC are very good .they have modern infrastructure and have attached bathrooms and washrooms. There are all the basic facilities available like a bed, study table, side table, fan and tubelight And you can have your own AC or cooler if you want. There is a water cooler on every floor. Mess in our colleges is run by our own student committee and has decent food. the menu is fixed for every week. Meal qualities are okay if not very good. Every student in MBBS college can get a postal room if want and a form for a hostel room can be applied after admission. Hostel rooms are affordable with only 25 k pa approx hostel fees. I was a hostel student and this has little knowledge about PG

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose this course because I've always wanted to become a doctor. Every batch consists of 150 students and for every subject, there are at least 4-5 professors. All faculty members are of course doctors with varying degrees of specialization in their respective fields. Their teaching method is through PowerPoint slides for theory classes and practical's are held in respective labs as it happens everywhere else usually. As for now, due to COVID exams being postponed otherwise before the pandemic, exams were held on time. Exams in a medical college are always slightly more difficult than other courses otherwise if you study properly it's not that tough to pass.
