Remarks

The eligibility for the course was min 60% in 12th-grade board exams. The application form along with the application fees and date were mentioned on the course website itself. During my admission process, I only had to go through an entrance exam which was about 3 hours long. I do not remember the cut-off for the college exactly. I think since 2020, a personal interview stage also has been added to the admission process which takes place after the entrance exam (if you make the cut-off list).

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

Journalism is something I have an interest in, specifically sports journalism, and cause my sister also knew that she suggested this course to me. I ended up choosing this course because of the variety in the course in terms of the subjects being taught there. Students are taught everything from reporting and writing to intro to film to ad&pr and many more things. The faculty-to-student ratio was good enough as the teachers had the attention of their students at most times. Most of the faculty members were highly qualified and had worked at big companies and organizations before joining the college. Some of the teachers were even part of the colleges as students before becoming teachers there. The teaching method varied from one teacher to another with some being good at times while others were not sufficiently good. There was one midterm exam per semester and one end semester and usually, all of them were pretty easy to pass, with only a few of them being very difficult to pass.

Placement Experience

3

Placements are good only if you're interested in AD&PR, graphic design, and videography but not good if you're interested in journalism. The salary packages ranged from 2 to 5 LPA. I didn't get placed because of the unavailability of jobs that interested me during the college placements.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fee structure was the same throughout the three years of college. But because of the pandemic, we were allowed to pay our fees through installments in the third and final year. The course fees do get hiked every year and if I'm not wrong the fees have hiked up to 2.5 lakhs rupees which are up from the 1.8 lakhs rupee fees during my time. I am not aware of scholarship opportunities provided by the college as I didn't apply for them myself. During our final semester, the college helped some of us get placed also. I ended up not getting placed because the jobs being offered via college were not what I wanted. It is easier for people to get jobs from college if what they want to do is AD&PR or graphic design or videography. It is harder for people to get jobs if they do journalism in general as there aren't many companies coming to college for placements. The salary for most of the placement jobs ranged from anywhere from to 2-5 LPA.

Campus Life

4.5

Life is campus is better compared to most other colleges in India cause the town of Manipal is a student town, which makes life easier for all students. The hostel is a bit strict though with perm times and whatnot. The hostel campus does provide students with everything they need. But you also have the option to live outside in apartments for rent. Depending on which college you're in Manipal, there is a variety of fest that you can attend. MIC had two major fests- Proverb, which was a debate fest, and Article 19, which was a normal college fest with lots of different competitions. Both of the college fests weren't held in the last two years of my college because of the pandemic. We do have sports day once every year. There are a lot of clubs and organizations run by students in Manipal that anyone from any college can join.

Placement Experience:

The students are eligible to sit for placement in their final years. The companies which comes for the placement are deloitte, goldmanSachs, amazon and many more reputed companies. And they do make many offers. The highest package reports around 30 LPA and the average goes on around 3 to 4.5 LPA. Around 70-90 percent get placements. My plans is to pursue higher studies.

Placement Experience:

Students become eligible for campus placements towards the final semester of their course. Currently, I have only been using the help of my faculty for internship opportunities, since I am not looking for placements. But they have connections with big names in the communication sector, and they often have personalities coming in to give talks and interact with the students. A great number of students opt for placements and approximately 90% of them do end up getting posted at really good companies. Others choose to continue with higher education. My plan after receiving my degree would be to take up a diploma in literature in the UK, while simultaneously finding myself a position at a good publishing house there.

Placement Experience:

From my seniors, I hear that 20/30 % of students from our college get placed. But now being in my final sem I know the reality. For covid and lockdown, the placement sector has been badly hit. Only a handful of companies came this year (5/6 companies). 4/5 people from our batch are placed but no placement for the big chunk of people. From 5th sem students become eligible for placements but in 5th sem, no company came to our college for placement this year. Only in the 6th sem, the placement cell started. Companies that visited till now ( some of them came to take interns and didn't offer full-time jobs) 1) Clevertize, 2) Social Panga, 3) Robert Bosch GmbH, 4) Saatchi & Saatchi, 5) Publicis, 6)PR Pundit, 7) McKinsey, 8) Edsol Edtech, 9) Momo Media, 10) MSL, 11) Genesis BC, Offers: 1.5-3 LPA (average). I plan to send CVs personally to companies through LINKEDIN and other job search platforms because the college hasn't provided us with good placement offers as claimed.
