Remarks
Like every other thing in this universe this university has its own pros and cons, if you are thinking about your future and are focused on studies, this is the right place for you. But if you want to enjoy college life with independence and open minded atmosphere this just might not be the correct place to step in. My stay of four years taught me lessons that I will never forget in life and being from northern India , taking in the culture and indifferences was a huge change to my personality, I went from a pop fan to a rock guy. These four years changed my perspective about life and the way I approached to my problems. College management was always up to par and helpful. There is a proper system to manage everything hear which makes it easier for you to do various tasks which involves the management of the university.
Entrance Preview
KEE (KARUNYA ENTRANCE EXAMINATION) I scored a 2390 rank out of 4500 shortlisted. I chose this course over others because I wanted to be a robotics engineer in future and to become one, pursuing electronics and instrumentation sets you apart from the crowd. Many renowned universities that run this course also only accept students only from either instrumentation, mechanical or computer science.
Course Curriculum Overview
University has done a lot of research and development, it is also a proud owner of its own developed technologies that helps to provide students with a sustainable environment. The waste from the mess foods and other edible garbage is converted into bio gas and then used for electricity supply and also as fertilisers in the nearby fields of the university. It also provides one of the rarest courses that can be seen among Indian universities which include: B.tech in electronics and media technology Nanoscience courses And many others.
Internships Opportunities
Yes you can go abroad to do internships from our university, IAESTE centre at Karunya arranges for internships for students in various countries in exchange for student internships for foreign students in ours. The stipend depends on the universities and the countries and varies with each of them. You can apply for these internships in the penultimate year or final year or your degree. You must be a member of IAESTE, and a valid passport holder. In most of the cases you only have to pay for the travel expenses, the stay and food apart from the stipend you are provided is already taken care off.
Placement Experience
Placements drive and placement training cells are conducted for students in their penultimate and final year. Training for aptitude tests , interviews etc. is given to all the students. Various Core and IT companies visit the university campus for recruitment. And by core I mean core for every course, for eg. Students studying food processing get placed in companies like Nestle, while students studying mechanical can get placed in mahindra. Apart from this even some companies from Germany and UAE also visit the campus for recruitment. Around 70-90% students get placed, where the others are left behind because of the number of backlogs they possess even after their final year. Many students have jobs in their hand even before the last semester.
College Events
Like any other university out there this one also has a lot of fests and cultural events, from technical fests to events focusing on christianity, you will see it all here. You will find the touch of Christ everywhere inside this college. Tech fests like mindkraft invite students from other universities to showcase their abilities in their respective fields with our students. Events like MAD(MAKE A DIFFERENCE) is conducted to raise money for the underprivileged. And the year is ended with. Fantastic Christmas carnival, with spectacular plays and singing and battle of bands with super delicious food in the mess. There were other fests too conducted by the respective departments.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Fee structure is feasible when compared to the infrastructure and facilities provided. Fees keep fluctuating so it will be better if you visit the website, but to give you an idea the tuition fee for four years cost me around 6lakh rupees which does not include mess and hostel charges.
Fees and Financial Aid
Lots of scholarships are offered and can be checked on their website, the main among them I would count would be Dr. DGS Dhinakaran scholarship provided to students on the basis of their CGPA and marks in the scholarship exams, university also helps provide loans to students from union bank and other banks.
Campus Life
Campus life is good, with a lot of diversity you see around yourself with students from all over India and NRI's, you can also found a good amount of African students too. There are a lot of extra curricular activities ranging from sports to different student clubs, KEMT(Karunya Evangeline memorial tournament) is organised by the university and teams from accross the prominent universities are invited to take part in it. There is no student politics, none at all. You'll find many rich students in your class then you will even find the needy ones too, with most of the class filled with the middle class students. Male to female ratio is very less, in my class of 63 students only 14-16 were females and rest of them males. Being in the southern part of india, interaction between opposite genders is considered taboo here and can become irritating for someone coming off from North India or someone who has never experienced it. It comes off with girls sitting seperately in classes, in assemblies, seperate lines. Dating scene makes you feel like a criminal sometimes.
Hostel Facilities
You can only choose to live in hostels, there is no option for becoming a day scholar here. Hostel facilities are upto the mark, cleanest toilets you will ever come across in hostels. These people actually clean the toilets three times a day. Hostel fees is paid separately and is definitely cheaper than living 2 months in a PG. Hostel rooms are four tiers, two tiers and single tiers, the lesser the number of people the price of the room goes up and size goes down. Mess: There are three kinds of mess you can opt for the cheapest being south Indian mess, the moderate one North Indian mess and little expensive one international mess. International mess costs around 7k per month, but the food is really worth it. Not for vegetarians though, but the mess can be a bliss for meat eaters.
Alumni/Alumna
Alumni network is good, but I would say the personal relations you make with your seniors are the best. Seniors were and are still helpful now. Normally in any engineering college a first year would expect to get ragged by a senior, so I thought and was called out by senior and as I thought that this would be my cue to do something embarrassing, the guy simply told me not to get scared and that he liked the little rebel in me and to keep on going in life the same no matter what people would say. His words that day inspired me and I never ragged anyone, in my entire four years of stay.
Exam Structure
University conducts three internal exams and one semester exam at the end of each semester. The amount of study you have to do for internals is very small and an average student can prepare for it in a day. But the marks for all three internals are averaged and used again to average against your end semester marks for that particular subject. Attendance is also given weight age for the same, if you have more than 90% attendance you get 5 marks for free and likewise it keeps coming down to 75%. It is necessary to maintain 75-85% of attendance throughout the semester otherwise your semester is cancelled and you're not allowed to write exams or worst case scenario you have to repeat your year again.
Admission
Apply online on www.karunya.edu Choose your test centre You'll have to pay the application fees (keeps changing and is mentioned on the website) You'll be then provided with an admit card You'll be informed the location and time of your test. Write KEE (KARUNYA ENTRANCE EXAM) Questions asked are in three sections: 1.science based 2.general awareness 3.biblical for Christian students and moral for others. clear the exam Check your results Obtain your rank and take a print out of it. Come to Coimbatore for orientation University arranges for stay for prospective students in boys hostel, transport is also provided for students from city hub to the university, since cabs and autos can be expensive as it is 25kms away from city. You can choose your course based on the rank number that is being processed against the number of vacancies available in a particular course at that specific time. Pay the admission fees
Faculty
Faculties are good friendly intellectuals with high qualifications, most of my faculties had done PhD and the rest of them were pursuing the same, even the assistant professors had a M.tech degree. These high qualifications in itself can tell you the calliper of education that these faculties were delivering to students.
