Remarks

It is among the oldest and the best-recognised college in its field of education and has given some of te best hoteliers to the country.

Entrance Preview

NCHM JEE . I do not really know how much I exactly scored but I did get called for the next round of selection which was an interview with a select panel. Obviously, I qualified the interview too.

Course Curriculum Overview

5

The course structure of the program is centrally developed by specialists in Delhi and is among the top programs globally. Since the program is jointly conducted by the IGNOU, the program is extremely well executed and is standardised all over the country across the various institutes that are affiliated to the National Council. The research is also top notch and is well supported. There are various electives in te final year based on the students' choices.

Internships Opportunities

Yes, the college does provide internships to all students during the second year of the curriculum. The stipend generally depends on the various companies but is generally quite substantial to support studies. All the major national and international brands of hotels come for taking interns.

Placement Experience

4.5

In my batch, almost all were placed before the commencement of the final examinations. Most major hospitality companies such as the Taj Group, The Oberoi, ITC Hotel division etc came. In those days, they used to offer a joining stipend of 7500 Rs. At that time that amount of money used to be quite enough.

College Events

3.5

Since te college is a rather well-known college in the city of Kolkata and also among the oldest, so there are plenty of events, fetes, food festivals and other cultural festivals that are conducted throughout the year. The teams of the college also participate in te various student fests of the other colleges very actively.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Since it is a government college, the fees are quite affordable compared to the other colleges in the private sector. Although the fees have steadily increased over the years, still it is very low compared to the private colleges. The figures keep changing year to year but in our times they were extremely low. There were many scholarships also available for the meritorious students and many of my batchmates studied for almost next to nothing.

Fees and Financial Aid

There were plenty of scholarships available although in our times' student loans taken in the name of students wasn't really very widely practised. Over the years many other scholarships have been added.

Campus Life

5

The campus life used to be great since there were students from all parts of the country and used to intermingle freely. The sex ratio actually was rather skewed in the favour of boys with less than 20% of te total batch size being that of the girls. There were plenty of extra co curricular activities, sports and other actvities

Hostel Facilities

5

The hostel rooms were very good, with separate hostels for boys and girls. The hostels were also subsidised heavily by the government so the cost of the stay was actually very very less. The mess was governed by the student body and comprised of the student representatives and so therefore used to be of quite good standards. Since Kitchen studies are one of the subjects, many budding chefs have been known to have honed their skills on the tables of the mess.

Alumni/Alumna

The alumni network is extremely strong with alumni placed in some of the senior-most positions in the industry and they are quite helpful since I am among one of them.

Exam Structure

The exams are mostly based on the practical applications of the knowledge since it is a thoroughly professional program. The exam labs are very well developed and are an integral part of the entire course curriculum. The exam lads are obviously quite hectic and not chilled out at all. In fact, the practical exams last entire days and are the most important part of the whole exam process.

Admission

The admission process included an All India level written examination followed by a round of personal interview. Once through in the interview, I was asked to provide preferences for an institute of choice from among the 16 available at that time.I was selected for IHM Calcutta which was among the top institutes at that time. The entrance examination itself was quite simple with class 12 level of questions. The interview process was more strict and I thought that the interviewers were looking for the general acumen, adaptability to the profession and the general interest of the candidates.

Faculty

5

The faculty is really top grade. Almost all the core faculty including the principal and all HODs have been past students of the same college and are therefore well adapted to the overall environment. The faculty themselves undergo various ongoing improvement courses and are therefore abreast with all te latest happenings. Since the course is a professional one, most faculties are very well tuned towards developing the skills in the students.
