Remarks
Not really except for the fact that the College does provide way too much emphasis on its rules and regulation very strictly. And too much favorite towards the ST and SC students which sometimes tend go overboard I guess. Apart from this St.Xavier's Ranchi is indeed a great institution and am proud of to be a part of its enriched history and a Xaverian.
Entrance Preview
College took an entrance exam for admission in B.Com(Hons.) We were not given our marks but a list selected students who cleared the required cut-off marks in an entrance exam was published by College. I chose this College because it was St.Xavier's and was the best college in Jharkhand and Bihar or arguably the best after St.Xavier's, Kolkata and Presidency University in Eastern Zone.
Course Curriculum Overview
The Course curriculum was designed by the College itself since it was an Autonomous College under the University of Ranchi. So basically it followed the curriculum of the University by making few changes of its own as per its own requirement. However, the Commerce Department did give emphasis on the curriculum that would help its students in preparing the for Chartered Accountancy, Company secretaryship or Cost Accountancy simultaneously with the graduation. Hence, Curriculum would compliment the papers in Professional exams also.
Internships Opportunities
The internship was provided in the of preparing a Project Report by the segregated group of students on regional businesses, establishments and industries in last semester of the course.
Placement Experience
We had Campus placement took place our campus in the 6th semester for B.Com(Hons.). Many large Companies and MNCs came despite the fact that there are not much industries, businesses or companies in or around Jharkhand. However, the college needs to take some steps towards making placement substantial.
College Events
The college organizes various events of culture, music, dance, literary and sometimes few discussions on the current affairs and topics in our society and country. There was an Annual Fest of the College called Xavierutsav taking place in February every year. every College participates in the fest for the University and City. It runs for 3 days.
Fee Structure And Facilities
College used to charge Annual Admission fees at the time admission to every year of the course. Roughly the amount was Rs.6,000 per year fee for B.Com(Hons.) and examination fees were charged approximately Rs.500 to Rs.700 every semester from 1st to 6th semester increasing gradually over the 3 years of the course. Very Feasible given that an Honours degree was provided within the cost Rs.30,000 is quite feasible. Half of the above-mentioned amount for students belonging ST and SC category.
Fees and Financial Aid
Since am a general Student, So, no scholarship was allowed to us. But students belonging to ST and Sc category would get the annual scholarship of Rs.20,000 from college.
Campus Life
We had 5 section in B.Com (Hons.) comprising of 3 section in the Morning and 2 section in evening. Each section would roughly consist of 150 students having an almost 50:50 sex ratio or slightly skewed towards Boys. We had diversified class as compared to other sections because my section was mainly made by all outsiders from different schools, cities, and states. ST. Xavier's does not allow admission to No-commerce students in Accounts Hons., as a result of which everybody had commerce background which really helped us to gel together as a class pretty quickly.
Hostel Facilities
I stayed outside the hostel of the College so I don't have any idea about hostel facilities and mess food provided to the hostel mates. And more over Hostel was mainly reserved for the students belonging to ST and SC category because St.Xavier's is a minority institution run by the Jesuit society.
Alumni/Alumna
We have an Alumni Association in our College known as AROX. Although, I haven't been able to interact with seniors too much during my college years but Alumni does try to keep in touch with us every now and then.
Exam Structure
Our course was divided into 6 semesters. Before End semester exam, a mid-semester exam of 30 marks of the Hons. Papers used to be taken and End semester exam of other 70 marks completing 100 marks in the Hons. papers and 100 marks for the other subsidiaries and language papers in End semester exams. Well, although there were practically Four exams in whole years. So, I think it was quite chilled out as compared to Senior Secondary in School.
Admission
We gave an entrance exam whose marks carries the weight age of 90% and 10% weight age of combined performance in Accountancy, Economics and Business Studies was considered for getting to an aggregate of marks required to get into this College. Then, College published the List of Selected candidates for admission into the applied discipline.
Faculty
Faculties were highly qualified and completely dedicated to their duties although I did feel they were little rigid over the fact of students carrying on with CA, CS or CMA along with the Graduation. But then other professors would also motivate and appreciate towards the fact that Students are also doing Professional courses and not only relying on B.Com.
