Remarks
The only blot on my college's reputation is our dreadful administration. It is lazy and to a certain extent corrupt. They would come up with lame excuses when it came to their lack of work. The girls had really strict hostel timings while the boys had none. The administration looked at girls with a prejudiced eye. The college placements are another thing which needs improvement. Only a small percentage of our students secure placements through college which needs to improve.
Entrance Preview
In order to get admitted to a National Law University, one has to appear for the CLAT (Common Law Admission Test). I did the same. I appeared for this exam in May, 2010 and I scored 135 out of 200 and secured a rank of AIR 636 in the general category. In accordance to this rank, I was allotted this college and I decided to stick to it. There is no other admission procedure for Indian Students.I had decided to study law ever since I was in Class 11 and thus prepared for the same.
Internships Opportunities
I went for about seven internships during my graduation and they were in general okay. I had interned under various lawyers, law firms, Public Sector Undertakings and Multi national Company. These internships were extremely helpful as they offered me a lot of experience. I got to know a lot from these internships. As far as the stipend is concerned, it varies from internship to internship. It varied from Rs.1000 to Rs. 10000 per month.
Placement Experience
The placement committee in my college is extremely hardworking. Whatever placements have happened in my college is because of the efforts of the students and the committee. There was no effort from the college administration. The main recruiter were law firms like Amarchand who offered around 10 lacs pa, Khaitan (8 lacs pa), Lakshmi Kumaran (8 lacs pa) etc. There were LPO like Mindcrest, Quislex and Thomson Reuters Legal Managed Services also who offered around 5 lacs pa.
College Events
There were many extra curricular and co curricular events hosted by the college and were both intra and inter college. These ranged from sports events to moot court competitions to debate competitions to model united nations.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fees were quite feasible compared to other law colleges. We had to pay around Rs 85000 per year all inclusive. Similarly other colleges charged around Rs. 1.5 Lakhs per year. But from the 2015 session, the fees have been hiked to Rs. 1.2 lakhs per year.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions
None for the general category students. But for the SC/ST students from the students from the State of UP whose family income was less that Rs. 1 lac per annum were provided some relief from the state government. Apart from that there was nothing much.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel facilities and food were just about okay. We were given single rooms which were quite roomy with attached balcony. There were common washrooms. The students were required to stay on campus. The food was something which was not very good as the vendors were quite lazy just like our college administration and that's why they did whatever they feeled liked.
Alumni/Alumna
The alumni base of my college is very strong. There are people who have gone abroad for further studies. Many are working with top law firms and advocates. Some have set up their own practices. Others are working for PSU's like ONGC, Indian Oil etc. Some like me are working for MNC's like Thomson Reuters. We often had interactions with our seniors in college and over social networking sites we got guidance from them. In general they are quite helpful.
Exam Structure
Each academic year is divided in two semesters. There about 6 subjects per semester. There is also 10 marks for class attendance and class performance. Being a law course, there are are no practical courses. Along with that we had to submit projects in each subjects. Overall it was not too hectic.
Faculty
The faculty in general was okay. We had certain professor's who were extremely experienced and were just amazing. Their vast knowledge about their subjects is simply awesome. The majority of the faculty were on the younger side (30-32 years). They lacked experience but in general they possessed subject matter expertise. The faculty is extremely helpful and will go out of thier way to clear all lingering doubts.
