Remarks

I have done Bsc in Botany with 72% marks Vijaygarh Jyotish Roy college then I applied here in M.sc in Botany in Jogmaya Devi College for M.sc. Here the eligibility for this course is you have to pass your graduation in Botany honors with a minimum of 45% marks. Then you can apply here. But the competition is very high so you need a minimum of 60% marks to pursue M.sc here. In my case, I got 72% in Bsc so I got admitted here easily. Here no entrance exam was taken. Everything is based on the merit list. One thing is that this college is only for girls. So you have to be a girl to be eligible here. You will find the application form on the college website www.jogomayadevicollege.ac.in. The admission fee is Rs 23000 which is comparatively high. Yes, there is reservation seats available for minority & other's university candidate.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

I want to be a professor in Botany so I did choose Msc and I have to pursue Ph.D. to be a professor. In our college botany seats for postgraduate student is very limited. We had around 22 students and we had 5 professors of botany. So our student-faculty ratio was very good. It is 4-5 students for one professor. Our professors were very much educated and were willing to teach us deeply. They took both online classes and offline practical classes. They were very open-minded and used to do interactive PowerPoint presentations in the classes. We had four semesters. And in every semester we had to pass all the papers. However, there is an internal assessment test before every semester

Fees and Financial Aid

The cost of study here is a little bit high if we compare it to others colleges. The admission fee is Rs 23,000. Then for the second semester, the fee was around Rs 18,000. Then for the third semester, the fee is Rs 22,000. And for the fourth semester, the fee will be around Rs18k-20k. So the total cost to study is 80,000 which is very high for a general college. The fee structure increases every year. However, some scholarship is available for the students. The SVMCM scholarship is for students whose family income is less than 2.5L/Year and who got 53% of the marks. Kanyashree is available for girls and there is OASIS & many other private scholarships.

Campus Life

4.5

We did not have any chance to celebrate cultural programs as most of our class was online. But in our college every year some cultural programs were organized and many of the students participate in dancing, singing, recitation, etc. There is also festivals like Saraswati puja, Teacher's Day, Independence Day, Fresher's Party, etc. Our library is very big and has all kinds of books available. I have got all our Botany books for PG from the library. It is very silent and clean & best environment for long studies. We have some indoor sports programs like table tennis

The placements are very good for BTech students. As I don't know much about Mtech but M.Sc placements are also good not too good but average. BTech has the best placements because many companies offer them job as this college is NIT level college.

If the student is quite serious to go for a PHD after completing his MSc from here, I would say it is a great choice but if one is looking for the option to explore some other field after completing his MSc from here, I wouldn't recommend of getting a degree from here.

The syllabus structure of KU is totally based on the IIT JAM exam syllabus. That helps students very much in future preparation for Ph.D. Also KU offers special classes for competitive exam preparations including SPSC or UPSC as well as helps to get placements in the private sector. And professors are very highly qualified they can teach this syllabus in depth and with care

Course Curriculum Overview:

The program curriculum encompasses Biological Sciences as well as it could have been. It is very elaborate comprising every branches from Instrumemtation and Methodologies to Cell Biology, Genetics or Molecular Biology for that matter. You are ought to have three theory papers and two practical and Grand VIVA papers each semester with a total of 4 semesters over two years. In the last semester, you need to prepare your dissertation. The papers include all the basic concepts and their applications and demands hard hours. I believe the syllabus can be relaxed a bit and the number of papers per term expanded and compartmentalised so as to reduce the load of individual papers. All the faculties are very supportive and Friendly and appreciate doubts and queries always.
