Ankit Somani's Review On Konkan Gyanpeeth College Of Engineering - [KGCE], Karjat

I sought admission in to direct 2nd year of engineering post diploma via CAP. There is no entrance exam as such for student who wish to opt for this course post three year diploma course from MSBTE.

The Course curriculum is up to the mark as far as the basics are considered but is way behind what the best colleges offer. It is laid back and doesn't give enlightenment to aspiring engineers. However, the University of Mumbai has a lot of name & fame attached to it so the course is considered good in the industry.

The College doesn't provide internship as such. They Provide only assistance to Production Engineering students for whom in-plant internship is a must for 7th Semester. Rest students have to manage on their own.

Placements are decent. Not everyone gets placed, but if you manage to be in top 5 in the batch, their is some hope. Cos. Like Godrej & Boyce, Fuchs Lubricants, Siemens, E-Clerx etc are some of the recruiters, the entire list is on the college website.

College celebrates the following events at large scale. Annual Day and events - A college festival with a lot of creative and technical competition held over a period of a week which helps the students to showcase their leadership and technical skills.Engineers Day - A small event is held within the dept. Teachers Day - A small event is held to facilitate the teachers. Independence Day & Republic Day.

I haven't availed any loan/ Scholarship facility from the college. However, I am aware that such facilities are available with the college. The admin section of the college can be approached for scheme as such and a detailed process has to be followed.

Alumni network is pathetic. I don't remember getting a call from the alumni dept. for an alumni meet in the last 5 years. Also, having talked to my friends from the college, it doesn't help either. In a nutshell, the college has Alumni group just to complete their KRA and nothing else.

Exams are conducted in line with the university guidelines. The Stationery is provided by college. Term Test papers are set so that everyone can manage to pass. Supervision depends upon the set of professors coming for it. The younger lot is lenient while the older lot is strict. However, university exams have a stricter lot no non-sense is allowed.

The admission process was chiefly via Centralized Admission Process (CAP). Once the diploma results are declared, students have to purchase a docket from Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) and follow the process. They have to give their preference of 30 colleges across maharashtra, first being the most preferred and the last being the least preferred.

Faculty of the college are mixed. There is a set of Professors who are experienced and have strong educational background. They also share good examples from the industry during their lectures. However, the newer lot are all passed out from the college itself and are all engaged in post-graduation and don't add value to your learning.
