Remarks
The good aspects are that student is free to work in clubs and learn skills as professors don't presurize much and students are free. We don't get hectic schedule and many semester, there are less classes in comparison to other NIT's. The bad aspect is the placement scenario, though the rank of college is 8th or 9th among NIT's, the average salary of students is 5.5lpa and almost only 70% students get placed. The mess food is terrible as it is in almost every NIT's mess.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose the course because I liked chemistry till my twelfth class. Faculty is good and some proffesors are strict while others are lenient. Faculty:Student ratio in classes is 1:60 while in labs it is 1:5. Faculty are highly qualified(PhD) with some faculty having teaching experience of 30 years. Term exams were taken on time, with two exams being taken at 3 months in a six month semester. It is easy to pass the exam as around 40%+ questions are repeated from previous year question papers.
Internships Opportunities
I have interned at IIT Patna, Bell Energy Services UK Limited and DuPont Sustainable Solutions. Generally CS/IT students get more chances of getting paid internships while other branches almost around 10% students get paid internships, while almost 90% students get internship opportunities.
Placement Experience
Students get eligible for internships in third year of college and can get placed in Final year(Fourth year) of college. Almost 100 companies visit and 350/550 students get placed.Software Engineer roles - Highest package =43 LPA Average package=11 LPAAnalyst roles - Highest package = 16 LPA Average package = 7.5 LPACore sector job roles - Highest Package =10.2 LPA Average Package = 5.5 LPA.70% students get placed.I am trying to get placed and do a job and will pursue MBA from top Institutes. Many students go for M.Tech from IIT's or foreign colleges.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Fee structure is great and one can get a loan without collateral. The fees is divided on the basis of income of parents of student,if income>5 lakh INR - fees = 1.6lakh per annum (inclusive of mess fees),if income>1lakh and <5 lakh - fees = 90thousand per annum (inclusive of mess fees), if income<1lakh - fees=45 thousand per annum (inclusive of mess fees)Fees hike generally occurs, but is implemented on the new batches, a student will have to pay the same fees every year unless his/her parent's income changes.Campus Placement is 70%, with branches like CSE getting around 100% placed while core branches and lower branches getting placed around 60%. The placement scenario is of batch 2017-2021 in the COVID-19 pandemic.
Campus Life
Annual fest is NITYAMINI (Previous Name- Recstacy) and two Tech Fest (AAROHAN AND AAVISHKAR),conducted around January to April. There are many other fests occuring also like VIRASAT etc. Library is well equipped with books and journals. Classes are equipped with projectors and notes are available in the photocopy shop. One does not need to write notes in most of the classes. Sports and Extra Curricular Activities are important in NIT Durgapur and student get ample time to dedicate themselves towards them. CCA,SAE,GNU LINUX, DARPAN,MUSIC CLUB, ACTING CLUB, DANCE CLUB etc are all run by students. The college website and alumni website was made by students, though it is run by administration.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel facility is nice and all students live there. High speed unlimited internet is free and no electricity cost. Bathrooms have geysers too. A student will get a big room or a small one depends on the allotment. No student rents a PG. Hostels are affordable with an annual cost of around 3000 INR. Mess food is good somedays and bad on some, but the monthly special provided is mouth watering (especially non-veg).
Admission
You need to get a good rank according to your Caste Category, in JEE Mains. I did a coaching from my hometown for three years from class 11 onwards to clear JEE Main and JEE Advance, but got bad rank in Advance,so couldn't get into IIT's.
