Remarks
I have given entrance exams of VIT, Manipal, and a few more but finally chose SRMIST because of its infrastructure and excellent lab opportunities. Lab facilities were important to me as I selected the course biotechnology. I didn't avail quota, and in private colleges quota-based admissions are less. The admission is mostly based on your score/rank on a national test SRMJEE and your merit. As far as eligibility criteria, you have to pass your 12th standard examination with a minimum of 50-60% with PCM Or PCB (subject sort of depends on your course but doesn't affect much if you have any of these combinations). After the exam (SRMJEE) counseling dates are given and students are called as per their merit rank, where they can choose their preferred course and centers. This also depends on seat availability. They also have scholarship opportunities based on your rank. The rest of the admission process is simple and is coordinated and guided on the counseling day itself.
Course Curriculum Overview
I was interested in this particular course, hence I chose it. Faculty-student interaction is quite good if you choose your faculty wisely, please talk to your seniors before faculty selection and know their aspects and ongoing projects, this will be helpful for the senior years. The teaching method and it's quality have a vast up and down depending on the department and especially faculty. Every faculty has their own style. If you pay attention and show your eagerness you will be receiving the same. Some faculties are really strict so again choose wisely. A number of exams including class tests, assignments, semester exams were comparatively higher but timely. The passing criteria were overall 50% in each subject each semester.
Internships Opportunities
If you sit for placements you might get Preplacement offers or you might get offers for internships which can be converted into a full-time job. Apart from that, there are SAP programs and internship opportunities based on availability and obviously, Your courses. The internship work or project is completely related. To your course only and it also depends on what you choose. Internships are not only limited to what you get at college, you can always apply yourself at your preferred companies or organizations.
Placement Experience
Placements start from the mid-7th semester. Most of the companies are IT companies due to which CSE and IT are one of major in-demand courses. There are three tiers of companies that come for placement, mass company dream companies Superdream companies. The salary packages range from three lakhs per annum and can go up to 18lpa or more. The average salary is around 5 to 7LPA. Around 70 to 80% or even more students who sit for placements get placed. There are certain criteria as arrears, percentage scored During the semesters that is CGPA which determines the placement opportunities. People in departments like biotechnology biomed, genetics mostly go for higher studies. There are certain barriers to placements if you are trying both for a job and higher studies simultaneously. So it is better to have a clear decision. I decided to go for higher education.
Fees and Financial Aid
There's no such fee hike policy or anything of that sort. Fees in the high-in-demand courses vary upto 1lakh based on your merit rank (SRMJEE). You can receive a scholarship based on your SRMJEE rank (mostly upto rank 100 get a chance for this). You can also receive scholarship benefits later based on your results among your whole class. This scholarship amount is based on the number of toppers and your class position among them. You have to maintain a very good CGPA for this
Campus Life
Aaruush and Milan are the tech test and annual fest in the college, there are other departmental feats and activities all year around. The college has a well-facilitated and spacious library where you can get almost all the books related to different curriculums. The campus is clean, spacious with food stalls, stationery shops and supermarkets. Sports and extracurricular activities are given enough importance with frequent tournaments, NCC , football, badminton, basketball court. Other extracurricular activities and groups such as dance, drama, MUN etc are present. We had our NGO, who conducted drives often. There are many department-based clubs as well which students join and work for. CSI, anweshwna are a few clubs. There are funded groups and clubs where you can work and learn. They have initiatives to fund your startup as well, it gets really tough competition but worth it.
