Entrance Preview
I appeared for CET (Common Entrance Test). I was ranked 111 all over Maharashtra in the course. Sydenham is amongst the top rated Management school in Mumbai and has good faculty. Hence I opted for this college.
Course Curriculum Overview
Course structure is quiet elaborate especially in the second year when one has to select his specialisation. I took Finance as my specialisation. The topics range from Indian business and economics to International business and economy along with general topics such as Communication, Accounting etc.
Internships Opportunities
Yes, the college helps in getting internship. At our time in 2000-2002, the general stipend ranged from Rs.2000 to Rs.6000 per month. I received internship with Reserve Bank of India, amongst the best in the finance field. Experience of working was wonderful especially getting to work in the Cooperative Banks department at that time when India was grappling with problems with Cooperative banks such as Madhavpura.
Placement Experience
We had 100% placement in 2002. The companies visiting companies were mostly top notch like Mckinsey & Co., Hindustan Unilever, Marico, HDFC Ltd, HDFC Bank, Kotak Bank, Accenture, TCS etc. Packages ranged from Rs.360,000 p.a. plus perks to Rs.600,000 p.a. plus perks in 2002 when we graduated.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions
No, Scholarship that I know of. General University of Mumbai scholarship is the only one I know of. As for the loan, college didn't provide any directly.
Hostel Facilities
I didn't stay at hostel being a local student. However based on what I heard from some students who stayed in hostel, the rooms were pretty ok with sharing of 2-3 people per room. The mess food was non-existant. It had a tie-up with some canteen, the food of which was supposed to be pretty ordinary. Overall, hostel facilities and mess food would be rated ordinary by me.
Exam Structure
Exams were held once every 3 months. However, we were graded even on Projects, periodic research etc. Hence, it left us with a hectic and tiring day on most occassion. Only towards the end of the final semester was the study load relaxed a bit because most people were placed by then and required only the basic final examination (including University exams in some electives) required to be appeared.
Admission
Post appearing for CET and achieving the ranking, I had to go through the centralised admission process of the University of Mumbai. Based on my ranking a particular day was allotted for me to appear and indicate my preferred colleges. If the preferred college quota is still available the same is allotted to the student.
Faculty
At our time we had one of the best faculty for the courses. Being situated closer the business district of Nariman Point, we had great number of visiting faculty from within the industry which helped gain insight into conceptual as well as practical experience of those individuals.
