I took the GAT ( Gitam Admission Test), scored 149 and my rank was 1646. I took up this college as I wasnt getting any good seats in bigger colleges and this was located in my city as well.
Course Curriculum Overview
Frankly speaking the course curriculum is pre-decided. It is credit based. But we are not given any choice with respect to any course in any of the 4 years. It is not research focused at all. If you are very much into research then you should be taking personal interest in exploring various avenues and having a good rapport with the professors so that they would guide you along. It is purely personal interest that is required here.
Internships Opportunities
Very few internships are provided by the college. Around 5 to 10 people were provided for in this aspect. We need to fend for ourselves in this aspect. Doing a civil engineering degree it isn't very hard to find one as there is a lot of construction activity going on everywhere. But i don't remember any of my fellow-mates getting any stipend.
Placement Experience
The job opportunities are plenty when it comes to the IT companies. We had Accenture, Wipro and TCS coming for our year. All of them recruited in mass number. The package that you get is the standard 3 to 3.3 lpa in these companies. Also companies like Mu-sigma, Deloitte etc also visited but hardly recruited around 20 each. Civil engineers opportunities are limited.
College Events
There is usually an annual IEEE event that is conducted in our civil building. ISTE conducts the GMUN and bimonthly events. Other colleges in the same university keeps conducting various activities and cultural fests where we are welcome to participate in. The have decent participation ranging between 100 to 500. The problem we did face was with respect to attendance when we attend these events.
Fee Structure And Facilities
I really feel that the Fee was expensive. I paid a total of 1.4 lakh for each year. Now I have heard that it is around 2 lakh per year, exclusive of the hostel. After it has become a deemed university, the fees have been tremendously increased. I have been a day scholar therefore I am not the right person to talk about the hostel fees and the mess fees.
Fees and Financial Aid
Not a lot of scholarships are offered by the university. Neither have I heard of any special loan offered by the college. I think there is a loan facility offered by Indian Bank and Union Bank of India that are in our college. I am not too sure though. However, there was this 10 k scholarship per semester availed by my friend who has a caste certificate and stood in the top 5 of the batch of those who were eligible.
Exam Structure
The structure was simple. We have 2 quiz exams and 2 mid exams and finals for each semester. Quizzes are simple 5 mark tests conducted on the discretion of the teacher. Mids are conducted once in between and once in the end for 30 marks and the whole batch has it at once. The finals happen after the 2nd mid exam for 60 marks, 12 marks for each unit, total of 5 units.
Admission
I got to know about the notification from friends. You can always check for the same in the official website. The admission process was very systematic. You will be called for the admission rank-wise. The branch selection is also very transparent. I hardly remember everything clearly now since its been 5 years. But I remember being taken through a series of desks one after another each meant for a different purpose.
Faculty
The variation in the quality of faculty is tremendous. You will be seeing people who have 25 yrs + exp to brand new people who have finished they m.tech and joined for teaching. On the whole, they way they teach conduct themselves is more or less average. You should be lucky enough to get the better teachers who are good with their subject as well as their teaching in order to get the best out of them.
