Remarks
I applied for KIIT and SRM, the reason for not attending KIIT is its bad placement history and low quality of education. The admission criteria for admission in SRM is a minimum of 60% score in class 10 exams and a minimum age of 16 years. There were three classes of tuition fees: 1. 150000 lakhs: for people below 10k rank in SRMJEE. 2. 250000 lakhs: for people between 10k to 17k ranks in SRMJEE. 3. 350000 lakhs: for people above 17k rank in SRMJEE The admission process/councelling earlier used to be held only in Chennai, at the University, but for the first time the students were allowed to select their preferred place of councelling (those places were one of the srm colleges) from a list of places pan India, hence I choose the SRM college at Gurgaon for my councelling process as it was near to my state.
Course Curriculum Overview
I was always interested in computers and also seeing it as a booming industry was the reason for me to choose the course. Faculty: student is 4:70 There are 4/5 faculties per 70 students. Most of the faculties are Ph.D. holders and hold good knowledge about their subject. The term exams are taken in about every month, there were surprise tests also in between. It is really easy to pass/score/top in exams if you just study whatever the teacher emphasizes more on.
Internships Opportunities
Companies offering internships: Unschool, byjus, Verzeo, etc all these companies offered internships with stipend. You can also do internships under srm professors without any stipend. The project and outcomes depend upon the field of study.
Placement Experience
The students can apply for placements from the 7th semester. Around 300 companies visit the campus for placements including tata TCS, Amazon web services, byjus, verzeo, etc. The highest package last year was 42 LPA and the lowest can be estimated to be 3 LPA. Almost everyone gets placed, some of them have their own startups, some go for higher studies. I plan to get a job in an IT firm after the completion of my degree.
Fees and Financial Aid
During the admission process, I was given a paper in which it was written that the fees will remain the same throughout my four years of college. You can get a really good scholarship by: 1. Getting a rank Below 10k in SRMJEE, you'll save 2 lakhs as compared to other people 2. If you score 10 cgpa in your 1,2,3 year then 50k is reduced from the tuition fee of the next year. Talking about financial assistance, You can easily get paid internships/part-time jobs in the nearby areas that could easily get you enough for your monthly expenses.
Campus Life
Tech fest- AARUSH( in October) ANNUAL fest- Milan( in march) All the course books are easily available in the library, you even don't need to buy books as one can go and study in the library itself, at any time. Chennai being a costal region, there is lot of humidity, but thank god the classrooms have ac's indtalled. We are also provided with wifi in classrooms for educational purposes. There are various clubs that promote sports and culture among students, we even have sports as a subject in alternate semesters (you have chosen between sports and other subjects) There are around 180 student-run clubs in srm, promoting all kinds of technological, cultural, spiritual, health, sports-related activities.
Hostel Facilities
I live in a hostel room with two other people. 1. 24 hrs hot/cold water availability both for drinking and domestic purposes. 2. Wifi with a decent speed. 3. Electrical/cleaning staff is available from 8am to 5pm. Hostel registration is through an online college portal. The mess is near the hostel, the quality of food is not very good, they use too much of oil and spices. The menu includes idli, vada, chapati, rajma, rice, chole bhature, bread. Some special items at festivals.
Other Applied Colleges
