Remarks

It has been a remarkable experience for me, partially because of my friends and seniors. I drew very important people and lessons from my overall college life, both during and after. Needless to say, there is always room for improvement for both the student and the alma mater.

Entrance Preview

Punjab CET. Don't remember the score, but my ranking was somewhere around 5000 to 5500. I was sure of the engineering stream I wanted to be in. And I had a choice between two colleges for the same stream. I chose SSIET because it was nearer to my home and the infrastructure was better than the other college.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

The course curriculum was definitely loaded, like most other undergraduate program. The schedule was tightly packed with lectures, labs and tutorial sessions. The tests were uniformly distributed with just enough time to cover the syllabus and prepare for the exams. The Research aspect was less focused on, partially due to my program requirements. My stream was more industry extensive.

Internships Opportunities

No, it never used to provide internship. But I am not sure if that case still exists, or did they cut an exception, I am not aware.

Placement Experience

4

The placement opportunities on a sunny day are ample, meaning to say, there can be a lot of companies coming inside the college or sometimes in other colleges but under the same university. Usually the scope for Computer science and IT students is more, as we saw a lot of IT companies coming in. The usual package they offer is between 3.50 to 7 for undergrads.

College Events

4

There were many technical fests and cultural events being organized in the college. Mostly they invite colleges that fall under the same university. The technical fests are however better managed and attract more crowd as compared to the cultural ones.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is moderately affordable. It is not as convenient as studying in a government funded facility, but not even as expensive as a high end private college. The fee per semester was between 30,000-34,000 INR, payable through cash/cheque/draft or wire transfer.

Fees and Financial Aid

Don't have much knowledge in this domain. Except ofcourse the standard education loans available in banks

Campus Life

4.5

Campus life was bustling, gender ratio could be 1.75:1 (m:w). Ragging and ethnicity issues were never existant or tolerated by the management. If at all there was any issue, it was rightly addressed. The extracurricular was mainly about fests and internal fetes. For people who were actively involved in sports, there were a number of good opportunities to demonstrate their talent and be able to get cash prizes. Other competitions and events were like once a year, but with comparatively less participation

Hostel Facilities

4.5

The hostels were in the campus, just outside the college gates, So that the students could travel back and forth easily. The warden was completely on guard all the time, and the food quality was decent. For those who don't want to take the hostel, could get their own PG's in the nearby area.

Alumni/Alumna

Alumni network wasn't much active when I was enrolled. If it could be enhanced, I am sure it can be a great deal of help. But they were compensated by senior students. They were there to guide about the ways of working, where and how to buy books, help with previous year papers, examination patterns, course information, faculty insight and much more

Exam Structure

The exam schedule was very extensive. It was chalked out in a way to have just enough time for preparation. Examination days are ofcourse very hectic, even though there is a gap of atleast one day per course. The lab practicals were over before the main exams

Admission

After the entrance exam result, I has to attend the counselling session in Jalandhar where I was informed of my options. You need to fill up a registration form, mark your preferences and wait for your counselling call. It is then and there that you decide which option you want to take up. After you decide, you need to present the counselling paper to the appropriate officer and he guides you through the admission process. After the counselling, the college fees is deposited and the receipt confirms your admission.

Faculty

3.5

The senior faculty was very experienced and diligent. There was no lack of motivation or encouragement. Some of my teachers were directly hired from industry, thus they brought with them a lot of valuable knowledge. The new faculty was comparatively less experienced, but very competent.
