Remarks

I applied for electrical engineering at VSSUT, Burla. The counseling was conducted at CET for all colleges under OJEE. The officials asked us to first register and everyone was categorized according to their ranks. During online counseling, I had already secured a seat at VSSUT but in the end, I decided not to go there as it was away from my hometown. Then I applied for spot counseling and got a seat in Electrical engineering at CET as well as Computer science at VSSUT. I chose CET. The day of spot counseling was long. Everyone registered and paid the spot counseling fees, then we were called to select on the basis of ranks. We had to select a branch and college as per our choice according to the seats available. I paid the fees the next day when classes started. My rank was around 1,16,000.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

I was interested to take Computer science as everyone said it was in demand but couldn't secure it as my rank wasn't good enough. So I wanted to take up a core subject and electrical piqued my interest. Faculty in specifically electrical engineering core subjects are really good and highly qualified. Faculties in other general subjects are average. Exams were right on time according to schedule( also online exams during covid ). The exams are moderate to difficult. One has to study hard to pass. We have around 120 students divided into two sections and for each subject one teacher. The teachers are different for each section.

Internships Opportunities

2.5

A lot of companies like CISCO, etc. invite students to apply for internships. But it mostly depends on the students to search and apply at various institutions according to their will, skills, and what knowledge they want. For example, in electrical engineering one can apply to learn about power grids, various sources of energy, etc. And also to gain skills in programming languages.

Placement Experience

2.5

After the 6th semester, different companies come for placements. The college also has a placement cell composed of students. A few companies undertake mass placement such that the placement rate of the college is 100%. The highest package of last year was 38 lakh p.a. and the average was around 5 lakh p.a. My plans after getting the degree are to search for a placement and prepare for higher education.

Fees and Financial Aid

Fees are less because it is a government college. I have to pay about 16,500 per annum. For the even semester, we pay 15k and for the odd semester, we pay 1500. Hostel prices are around 5k. In the first year, one could apply for the scholarship on the basis of JEE rank. From the second year onwards, the scholarship can be applied on the basis of cgpa scored in the previous year. If someone has caste or disability or financial quota, he/she can get even more scholarships.

Campus Life

3

Tech fest is named Perception and Cultural fest is Xtasy. Those are held during Feb-March. There are many clubs like dance club, singing club, literary club, writing club, art club, drama club, technical clubs of almost every branch like Energy club, Zairza, Spectrum club, etc. There are also basketball and football fields. The library contains most of the technical books but not many novels and one could borrow 2 books at one time.

Other Applied Colleges

VSSUT | Computer science

It was away from my hometown and that place didn't have any further coaching institutes
