Remarks
I lived in Kolkata at the time and it was the best college for commerce in my city. Also, I had family in that college, I read reviews on the college, and plus, my school was opposite the college. Over time, I studied and understood that the college is not only great in Kolkata but also one of the best graduation colleges in India. based on these factors I made my decision.
Course Curriculum Overview
I did Bcom honours because I loved commerce and I had taken that course in school as well. Also, I had read about the faculty in my college teaching the course and I realised that the college only took teachers with a masters degree and with high experience. The faculty to student ratio was approximately 1:30 and there was personalised attention that was given to any kid who needed it.
Internships Opportunities
In Bcom, a summer internship is mandatory for a graduation degree. while I did my internship at a company outside of college, I know that the college placement team does offer internships as well as final placements. the internships ranged from free to around RS 15000.
Placement Experience
Student in the final two semesters (last year) are eligible for placements. the process is not compulsory and it charges Rs 100 for student opting for placement services. I did not opt for placements as I wanted to immediately sit for MBA, however, I am aware that the quality of companies coming to campus was good.
Fees and Financial Aid
Given that my undergraduate college was missionary led, the fees was not that high. my quarterly fees were approximately Rs 14,000-15,000. There were no fees hikes while I was studying. I did not get any scholarship aid, however, it was available for children who wanted it. also, I did sit for placements after that because I wanted to do an MBA immediately after college.
Campus Life
The annual fest is called Xavotsav and it is a big deal in the city. the college has a great culture and is mainly student driven. There are more than 2 libraries and all classrooms are Smart classes. there were teams for football, basketball, dance, debate and several other co-curricular activities. the atmosphere is very disciplined but at the same time fun and interactive.
Hostel Facilities
Bcom is not necessarily a residential course so I did not opt for the hostel facility. However, I heard it was cheap and the hostel was 15 mins walking distance from the campus. mess faculty was decent and 4 meals were available each day. also, there were several pigs available in the vicinity. some as close as 5 mins from the campus.
