Remarks
Overall, Rajarambapu Institute of Technology (RIT) is an amazing college when it comes to infrastructure and diversity. Some areas that it still need improvements are: Faculty standards, mess food quality and alumni network.
Entrance Preview
I had given an common entrance test (CET) examination carried out by Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Maharashtra. I opt for this particular college because according to the people that I know, the college was the best and was soon to become an autonomous college (which it did). I wasn't that good at academics, I would always find myself in library reading magazines in magazine section that reading any academic books. I never scored good.
Course Curriculum Overview
At the time when we were studying in the college, the course was prescribed by Shivaji University. To be honest the course and the curriculum was not at all good with absolutely no focus on research at all. But again, as the college then was abide by the University. All the syllabus was to be followed as the university suggested. Shivaji University courses have never been something that will encourage practical knowledge or research in anyway whatsoever.
Internships Opportunities
NO, the college never provided an internship. The companies that came in for the campus interviews always provided jobs that required 6 months of training to go through after which most of them would ask the joining candidates to sign a bond of 1 or 2 years minimum. Talking about the internships at college itself, yes, it did allow some recently passed out students pursuing post graduation to do the internship in teaching at the college itself with stipend ranging from 10,000 INR to 15,000 INR.
Placement Experience
At the time when we passed out, the placement percentage was good. Many multinational companies would come and pick the best students they can. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) was one of the companies which had signed an agreement with college that it will be the first company which will come for the placements thereby making sure that they will pick the best students from the lot. All in all, job opportunities at Rajarambapu Institute of Technology, Sangli (RIT) were good. Anyone with average percentage would qualify to do the aptitude rounds, and most of them would be placed.
College Events
College is very active when it comes to technical and cultural events that it celebrates at college level. Many kinds of technical events which are both national and state level are carried out every year. One of the big technical events that students prepare to participate and compete in is "Quantum". Many students all over Maharashtra participate in all the small events that come under Quantum. Some of the events are national level events which are well recognized all over India. Most are state level which are recognized all over Maharashtra. One of the big cultural events that students look forward to the most is "Virangula". It's carried out every year letting its students participate and show their extra curricular talents like singing, dancing, painting and other art forms.
Fee Structure And Facilities
I would say fee structure is feasible. Considering the infrastructure that the college has with all the facilities, the fee structure is affordable. It costs around 1.2 Lac per anum for a student who is pursuing Bachelor's Degree course. There is also a management quota which costs more.
Fees and Financial Aid
Various different scholarships are offered by the college. I can not recall of any that I have availed though but have seen my friends availing it. I don't remember the names. There are no loans available that college helps you to avail. I can't remember a single one. Neither have heard anyone who'd availed one from the college.
Campus Life
Talking about the gender ratio, girls to boys ratio is 1:2 on average. Talking about diversity, there are also students who are from outside countries that have admitted in this college. The college has a cricket team and participates in cricket tournaments that happen on state level. Other games that are played include indoor games like carom, table tennis and outdoor games like basketball and football. Talking about the competitions, robotics related competitions are carried out every year in which many interested students participate. Also, other competitions like debates, paper presentations, and other extra curricular is encouraged.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel facility is good and the college also provides free WiFi all over the campus including hostels. Hostel facility for girls is better that that for boys. Rooms are given on sharing basis. You can not have single room for yourself even if you are willing to pay more. It's strictly sharing basis. Mess quality however is not that good. It keeps changing as students complain about the quality all the time. There are around 4 different mess owners who run mess and canteen in college and hostel premises. The food quality can be improved.
Alumni/Alumna
There are alumni meets that happen every year. Also they have a alumni dedicated online portal, which very few alumni take advantage of hence the networking with senior students is impossible. Any networking that happens, happens on social media accounts through common groups like groups and pages on Facebook. College is working on forming a new effective alumni network though. I personally do keep in touch with college and I got this new from one of the senior faculties.
Exam Structure
Talking about the exam structure, I won't say that it was chilled out nor it was that hectic either. It was good on average. Again, university being the mail player in this case, exams were being carried out according to University's directive which most of the colleges in Maharashtra still do. RIT is currently an autonomous institute and having signed an MOU with them (I own a company now), the faculty seemed very receptive of any suggestions regarding the exam structure and the overall curriculum. Being an Autonomy, they now have more control over which curriculum to set for certain courses and how the exams are carried out.
Faculty
The technical faculties (except for the ones who were PhD) were not at all interested in what they were doing. Some teachers with PhD at hand were good enough at what they were teaching and had interest in what they were doing. If there's anything about the faculties that I would suggest to the college, it's that enroll as much teachers as possible who are interested and enjoys enough what they do.
