Remarks
Campus is very good, greenery everywhere. Location of institute is near ganga river, just 1 km away from campus. there is health centre facility and BHU hospital. I have one regret, i.e hostel and mess facility. Institute management should pay more attention on infrastructure and better facility as per IITs standard.
Entrance Preview
I Took GATE exam and entrance test for admission in IIT BHU. In gate I scored 443 marks out of 1000. But only qualification in GATE is sufficient. I opted for this IIT BHU for three reason. It has the specialization in which I was looking to pursue PhD, second BHU tag association with IIT because BHU is 100 years old and it is globally recognized and its alumni is working in many reputed industry worldwide, third reason is that this institute is very near to my hometown.
Course Curriculum Overview
Course curriculum for PhD is that you have to complete minimum of 44 credit through course work and rest through research work. Total one require 220 credit for PhD. After coursework one has to appear for Comprehensive viva and then state of arts within two year of admission. For coursework faculty adviser will help in selecting subject as per research interest. So course curriculum is good overall.
Internships Opportunities
Yes they do provide to the meritorious student. B.Tech and Masters student gets chance for internship in company like snapdeal, TATA, Infosys, etc. They get good stipend and depends on the company. 10000 to 18000 is the range in which they get stipend.
Placement Experience
Placement for B.Tech is fantastic. Most of them placed abroad. Even Microsoft, facebook, Google used to come for placement and give them huge package. Avg Package of most of company is 6 lac. Infosys, TCS provide 6 lac package. Masters student also they gets chance for placement. For PhD, it is bad scenario, only few university used to come for placement and give package in range of 8-10 lacs. No R&D company recruit PhD guy.
College Events
There are so many cultural activity throughout the year. There is sports fest Spardha in month of October, Technical fest TECHNEX in month of January, and cultural fest KASHIYATRA in month of February. Not only this, there are so many departmental fest through out the year. The student from different IIT, NITs and private college used to participate in all these events.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Fee structure for PhD is very low only 15,950 per semester. So I think it is very much affordable. For Masters also it is same as PhD. Masters and PhD guy get good scholarship also, so there is no worries for masters and PhD. For B.tech fee recently increased manifold. It is 1.25 lac per year now. But they can get easily loan from the bank .
Fees and Financial Aid
There are many scholarships for the meritorious and economically poor students. There are scholarship for masters and PhD student from MHRD. Masters students get 12400 per months and PhD gets 25000 per month. There is bank inside campus. One can avail loan facility easily with few academic documents and bonafide certificate.
Campus Life
Campus life is very good. A healthy atmosphere is here. There is no biasness on the basis of religion and cast. there is no gender biasness. Girls and boys ratio is 30:70, which is much higher than any other IITs. So many cultural , technical and sports fest are organized throughout the year. There are many experts talk from industry and academic is held for exposure to students. All events are at grand level in which many outside students participate. Many debate and essay competition are held at institute level.
Hostel Facilities
I am not happy with hostel facility. B.Tech people are provide in sharing basis of 3 in a room. The room are very small. Once you keep three bed and two table there is no place to stand in the room. M.Tech and PhD have to share two in a room. The mess quality is very poor. I will rate 4 out of 10. Hostel facility as not as per IITs standard. If you will go to other IITs like Kanpur and Bombay, you will amazed to see the facility provided in hostel, mess and canteens. You can get PG's in 500 meter distance in 4000 per person, but I will not suggest because there is so much powercut outside campus.
Alumni/Alumna
Alumni network is very good. there is special web portal for interacting with alumni. Many alumni used to visit campus and share their experiences in industry.
Exam Structure
Exam structure of every semester is that you have to appear for two class test and one final test. The class test is of 20 marks each and final has got weight age of 60 marks. 40 percent is pass mark in total. there is no gaps between two exam. for CT it will end in 3 days and final exam will end in 5 days. So you have hectic schedule during exam. Labs are conducted in second half of day. It may be either everyday or one or two day depending on course and subject. For general subject classes schedule is not very hectic or back to back. Overall It has good schedules.
Admission
I applied for the Ph.D through GATE score. They shortlisted me for written test. On the day of test I appeared and qualified in written also. They took interview for the shortlisted candidate from written exam. After exam they announced the final list of selected candidate. I appeared for counselling and document verification. After this I was offered admission letter and I was asked to pay the fee within one week.
Faculty
The faculties of institute are not as per IIT standard except few. Most of the faculties are from the time when it was not upgraded to IIT. I am not very happy with the faculty temperament. Although all faculties are mostly PhD holder from reputed IITs and some are PDF holder also. I will rate 5 out of 10.
