Remarks
The college management is quite good. You don't feel pressurised in the campus. You won't find any external political conflicts within the institute, it is extremely rare. The standards of teaching are high and recently high end computer labs have been made. Also, separated laboratory building is there. The faculty are supportive. The amino alumni network is good. Placement is satisfactory considering the status of the college.
Course Curriculum Overview
When I got admitted to CET, it was not autonomous. So, we are under the BPUT. From 2017 onwards CET has become academically autonomous. The batch that got admitted in2018, the whole curriculum is designed by the faculty of CET, examinations and all is also conducted by the college itself. That has given the college a very essential boost. All faculties are well qualified and the curriculum designed had been decided by taking views and insights of the alumni who are working in various industries. This gives the institute an edge over the other similar colleges. As a student of class of 2020, I can say quite confidently that the curriculum has imparted quite a bit of knowledge in me which will obviously help me in the industrial sector as well as if I opt for higher studies. The faculties in electrical department are highly qualified and spend sufficient time for the upliftment of the students. Various industrial visits and industrial lectures are organised by the department from third year onwards. Industrial lectures involve personnel from OPTCL, NALCO and from other technical institutes. Coming to industrial visits, opportunity is given to the students to apply for internships and also visits to power plants is organised. We went to PGCIL in the sixth semester. Coming to placements, mass recruitment is done by TCS and Accenture. As for the electrical deoartment, core companies like Robert Bosch, Maruti, BHusan Steel Plant ate available to choose. Apart from it JK paper and Windmoller and Holscher also come for placements.
Placement Experience
TCS, Accenture, Robert Bosch, Maruti, Windmoller and Holscher, Analog Devices, JK paper, Vedanta, Tata steel, Bhushan steel plant, Pradan, Ajatus, Toppscholars are some of the companies which recruit almost every year from CET. Besides, there are many more IT companies that come for placements to CET. Big four like Deloitte call CET students for placements in a common placement with a few other colleges of the city.
College Events
Tech fest of the college is called PERCEPTION and the cultural fest is called XTASY. Besides, department fests also take place annually. Sannidhya is the fest of civil department and for electrical, it is FEST-X. Apart from these, technical seminars are organised every month and state level and national level Hackathon a have also been hosted recently. The crowd attractions are perception and XTASY. I. Perception colleges from around the state come to participate in robo wars, tech seminars, literary summits and workshops. XTASY is the most awaited one where people enjoy themselves to the maximum. This takes place for a period of three days where every evening you'll find some celebrity on the stage. In 2020, Gajendra Verma was the guest. Apart from a celebrity singer, on one night famous comedian takes the role to entertain.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Fee is very much feasible. For b.tech course, including the hostel and mess fees the expenditure is less than 2.5 lakhs for normal courses. For Self Sustained courses, the total fee for four years is around 4 lakhs. Besides, in every department, 5 percent of the total seats are TFW seats, ie, tuition fee waiver.
Fees and Financial Aid
The college has a number of scholarship programs. All have their own criterion. CET merit scholarship is totally based on the rank and CGPA of students. Apart from this, all other scholarships like Medhabruti, and all have criteria for parental income. If your parental income is less than the specified, you can apply for it.
Campus Life
The admission ratio is 2:1 for boys to girls. Regarding the regulations of hostels, in time for girls is 6.30pm and for boys it is 9pm. Coming to extracurriculars, CET cup called engineers cup is organised every year where you can participate in your choice sport from cricket, football, basketball, volleyball, badminton, TT, chess. There are different technical and non technical clubs which keep you busy with their activities throughout the year. The variety of clubs starts from electronic, robotics, mechanics-car, dance, singing to astronomy and biotech. These clubs organise various workshops throughout the year. Also, the college itself organises various competitions like seminars, debate and Hackathon. Regarding student diversity, I haven't faced or heard of any racism or gender biased activity. The campus is peaceful and all people are free to enjoy themselves. Politics involves the selection or election of a committee that constitutes of students of final year of various departments. They are responsible for organisation of all the different activities throughout the calendar year.
Hostel Facilities
Yes. The college has two boys hostels, two girls hostels inside the college campus and an boys hostel exclusively for 1st years outside the hostel. These 1st years hostel boarders are provided with bus service. The boys hostels inside the campus are named RHR and APJAKHR, have capacity of nearly 500. In RHR, 3 students are accommodated in one room and in APJ 2 students per room. Total rooms in APJ is around 240 whereas in RHR it is around 160.
Alumni/Alumna
All the students who pass out from the college are recorded. All of the alumni are registered in a portal. Every year on the last Sunday a get together of the alumni is conducted by the college. The alumni network is very vast and strong. You can see people of 1985 batch at times. The alumni network is also associated with a scholarship scheme called nms-need for merit scholarship. College also arranges certain sessions of the current batches with the alumni where the alumnus tells about his experience of the industry and or the higher studies.
Admission
I got admitted into CET in the year 2016 to pursue B.Tech in electrical engineering. The admission process is pretty simple. You need to appear JEE- main. The selection is totally based on your JEE- main rank.kst people opt for NITs if they have a good rank in JEE main. I had scored 161 marks of maximum possible 360 at that time. Combined with the CBSE percentage as per the rule, I had a rank 37,216. For admission, you have to register on OJEE website. It takes place generally after the JEE Advanced results are announced and the admission into IITs and NITs is midway, in mid-July. You have to give choices of your preferred college and stream. Based on your rank, you'll be allotted the seat from the choices you've given. Generally, three rounds take place. After third round, if seats are still vacant, spot round is also organised. My first choice was CET, electrical and I got it in the first round itself.
Faculty
The faculty are all highly qualified profeesionals. Most of them have long teaching experiences. Some also have worked in high end MNCs. The faculty are not only good at teaching but also help in completion of projects and seminars. They are also available after the college hours. It depends on the students how much can they grasp from the teachers. Besides the subject matters, faculties may introduce you to certain real life scenarios at times. Certification courses are carried out in partnership with CTTC, Bhubaneswar. In the future as the college has become autonomous, it won't be surprising if student exchange programs take place with institutes like JNTUK.
