Remarks
I initially was here to pursue b.tech but decided to opt for BJMC since I'm interested in politics and world affairs and at the same also felt that engineering isn't my cup of tea. The best thing I like about the college is the infrastructure and facilities alike. The hostel is amazing. It has everything one would ask for. A swimming pool, a football ground, basketball court, volleyball court, gym, jogging track, etc. There is a laundry as well as mess. Mess food isn't tasty though but that's the case in every mess in India haha. Non-veg is served thrice a week. There is an evening supper known as high tea where light snacks are served in the mess like samosa and tea. All rooms are air conditioned. Rooms are double occupancy and single premium both. Students can choose whatever they like the best. Single premium is expensive. Room cleaning services are provided thrice a week. Overall the hostel is fantastic.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course is amazing and so are the faculties. Most of them are Ph.D. holders. They are all very friendly. Tanveer sir and Ambika Ma'am are my favourite, although both of them have now left the college. The syllabus is well updated and the students are exposed to a wide variety of fields. For example, in our first year, we were introduced to the concepts of mass communication, reporting, photography, and Hindi journalism, differences between New media & traditional media, history of media. We were also taught the basics of documentary film making. In second year, we were introduced to video production, personality development, we also had a subject on history and culture. French was also there in 2nd year but now probably it will be removed for the upcoming batches. We further studied media law and ethics and radio journalism. Besides every student of the college had to choose an open elective course in the 4th Sem where I selected international relations.
Internships Opportunities
Yes I opted for internship after my first year in first India news. It's a Hindi news channel running in Rajasthan. I worked there for 2 months but I did not get stipend.
Placement Experience
Placement and job opportunities are fine and if the student is well deserving he will get placed in great company. The university conducts many exchange programs to provide job opportunities to students.
College Events
Campus life is just so good. We have our festival named oneiros every year. Other than that, there are many different clubs like the music club, dance club, drama club, photography club, etc. Stand-up comedians are invited every year. Ted ex is also held. Extra curricular activities are held regularly. We have our own annual sports fest named abhivarta where students from various colleges participate.
Campus Life
It's mind blowing. It feels like you're in a foreign country. The main attraction is the dome building. other than that, there are 2 administrative blocks where classes are held. All classrooms are smart classes and air conditioned with cleanliness and properly furnished. There are labs for science and engineering students and also have our BJMC lab and studio. There are cafeterias where students hang out after the classes. Lunch is also served. (paid) There is a football ground, cricket ground, volleyball court, tennis court, and a running track. Value for money.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel is fantastic. It’s a hotel to be honest. Everything is available. We have a dominos outlet, café coffee day, and there are many restaurants that serve mouth watering dishes. Boys and girls hostel are right in front of each other. There are seven blocks in boys hostel and 4 in girls hostel. All students must be inside the hostel before 9pm or else there could be trouble. girls should be in their respective rooms by 11pm. Boys can roam around the hostel for the whole night. Some food outlets are open till 2 am for night delivery. Students can place the order from their rooms and the food will be delivered to their respective blocks. Sports facilities are awesome. There is a football ground, swimming pool, volleyball court, basketball court, jogging track, badminton court, etc. There is shop named all mart where everything is available food items, stationary, cold drinks, etc. Room cleaning service is provided thrice a week. There is a laundry also although it’s not necessary to pay if you’re living in the hostel. You will be provided a laundry bad wherein you can put your clothes, the maximum capacity is 30. You’ll get your clothes washed and ironed in 2 days, sometimes it takes 3 days although it’s rare. There is warden office right above the laundry where students can lodge their complaints regarding the services. All rooms are air conditioned. There are two types of rooms basically – single premium and double occupancy, Students can choose whichever they like the best. Single premium rooms are expensive and are few in number. The hostel corridors are cleaned and mopped everyday and gardening is done as well. MUJ is a ragging free college. Anyone found ragging can get into deep trouble, he may be expelled depending upon how severe the ragging was. Transport facilities are also available for the students in the hostel. There are cabs you can book which will take you to the city. If a student doesn’t want to use cab, there is a bus 100 metres from the hostel gate. 26 number low floor bus arrives every half an hour and it will drop you in the city and the fair is very cheap. You can use show your id card to the driver and you will be given concession.
