Remarks
The college management was extremely good, ethical and process driven. There were designated office and people for each function including F&B, Administration, Student affairs, Hostel management etc. The faculty was not allowed to enter the student hostel area so students got their own space after classes. The canteens and mess had their own outsourced management which was well administered.
Entrance Preview
CAT and MICAT i had a marketing and communication background and wanted to pursue that as my career. MICA is the premier school in strategic marketing, advertising and communication it is a dream school and the best residential institute in the country. The groups discussion and interview was conducted on campus along with written test MICAT.
Course Curriculum Overview
I specialised in Retail Communication and had various subjects spanning across the retail industry including, Buying & Merchandising, Supply Chain & Logistics, Visual Merchandising, Retail Store Planning, Retail Marketing Etc the course curriculum included study tours across India and overseas.
Internships Opportunities
I interned at IBM in Bangalore and took up a project on IT in Retail. Other internship projects included Titan, Max Hypernarket, Future Group and other retail players. The stipend back in 2006-07 varied from 4000-12000 per month.
Placement Experience
The placements were a mix bag a lot depends on luck we had many retail organisation come on campus like Piramal group, future group, Kamala dial and devices limited, Hypercity etc. The annual salaries offered ranged from Rs. 4 lac to Rs. 8 lac back in 2006-07.
College Events
MICA was a extremely active across all kinds of events. Be it cultural, sports, festivals, competitive and so on most of us wer regular participants.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fess back then was approx. Rs. 4 lac which was fairly affordable and worth the course the fee included hostel fees, food at the mess and the entire course curriculum including the domestic and international study tours.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions
Yes education loan facility was available which many students had availed of i hadn't taken a loan so not sure about much details.
Campus Life
I loved the campus life it is the real learning. Living outside campus doesn't complete the learning experience. With studies beginning in the middle of the night, last minute group assignments and test pressures those are the best form of learning. Management studies are an overall growth and shaping of a student and living in 24x7 is the best way to experience it. The gender ratio is extremely good at MICA with girls invariably being higher in number unlike most other institutes.
Hostel Facilities
We had both sharing and single occupancy hostel rooms. Being a residential course, we had to live on campus in the hostels. There was no option of living in a PG outside of campus. The hostel had hygienic and clean washrooms, common water coolers and a common telephone line. The rooms had a shelf fixed on the wall, a cupboard, a desk, a chair and a bed. We had paid laundry facility as well.
Alumni/Alumna
The alumni network is closely knit we have an online forum and people always look forward to going back to the institute during annual alumni meets.
Exam Structure
Exams were at the end of each trimester. We were also evaluated through regular assignments and class participation across all courses.
Faculty
The faculty was commendable. We had various guest lecturers as well from time to time and many from retail organisation which provided real on-ground insights.
