NIT Trichy, B.TECH IN CIVIL ENGINEERING

Remarks

The hostel and mess facilities are not satisfactory and the campus needs a lot of beautification. Also, some focus should be given to placement and job opportunities for non circuital branches as right now, there aren't many companies visiting the campus for cire branches.

Entrance Preview

I took JEE Mains to get into NIT Trichy. I scored 233 in it and was allotted a seat in civil engineering after online counselling. The admission process was quite hassle free.

Course Curriculum Overview

3

The course curriculum is fine when it comes to learning theory but there's not much focus on research and innovation. The faculty is a mixed bunch with some really good professors and some below par professors. The standards of faculty in civil department is pretty low. There are electives in the 3rd and 4th years, with the 4th year electives being global.

Internships Opportunities

Companies do visit the campus fit internships and all of them offer spends too. Stipends vary from really high (75000-80000 pm) for circuital branches to 15000 pm for non circuital branches. Reputed companies like ITC, PNG, TATA STEELS, QUALCOMM, TEXAS INSTRUMENTS ETC. visited the campus.

Placement Experience

3

Placement and job opportunities are really good fit circuital branches like EEE,ECE,CSE etc. with a large number of companies offering handsome packages while it is a bit more difficult for other branches to get placed and the packages offered are way lower. Packages range from 4 lpa to 30 lpa.

College Events

3.5

We have a cultural fest, Festember which is quite famous all over India with a large number of students from all over the country taking part in it. We have a technical fest, Pragyan, which also commands respect and a large number of colleges from southern India take part in it.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure was quite feasible for us but the fees have been increased for our juniors. It is still cheaper than most private institutions with all the fees adding up to about rs 1,50,000 per year.

Fees and Financial Aid

There are plenty of scholarships available that are funded by National and state governments. In addition, there are private institutions offering scholarships based on academic achievements.

Campus Life

3.5

The gender ratio is off with a girl to boy ratio of 20:80. There are plenty of groups and cultural events and workshops to take part in throughout the year and the student community is tightly knit. There is no discrimination among students based on caste, creed, gender, race etc.

Hostel Facilities

2

Hostel rooms are not at par with the facilities provided in other NITs and B.Tech students aren't given single rooms, ever. Mess food, though clean, doesn't taste good at all and we find ourselves going out for dinner frequently. Plenty of rooms are available in hostels, so no PG's are required.

Alumni/Alumna

The alumni network is pretty good and they are quite helpful when approached. It depends on the kind of relationship you shared with your seniors but they are quite helpful.

Exam Structure

There are two mid term exams, called cycle tests of weightage 40% and a final semester exam of 40% weightage. Exams and labs aren't too frequent an routine is pretty chilled out.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is well designed and covered both fundamental and advanced concepts. We choose elective papers each sem one paper from third sem. That selection of elective papers made us to do case study of real world exposure and competency. The curriculum prepared us for the reasonable real world applications. Also workshops and internships bridged the gap between industry expectations and academics. The teaching methods are really supportive and knowledgeable. On the whole the curriculum was strong and but needs to be imapctful.
