Remarks
Nothing specific. The management is quite hands off sonhow the college fares depends on how good the Dean and student body is. Things will really pick up if you have proactive Dean and an aggressive student group.
Entrance Preview
Snap score, 1 group discussion, 1 group task, 1 esaay, 2 interview rounds. Around 60 odd seats in general category. Would need decent scores in all of above to get through. Plus first class in all previous academics. Work experience of around 2 years is a big plus in interviews because Interviews are done by industry people and not college faculty.
Course Curriculum Overview
Great curriculum for Marketing and Supply Chain. Average for Finance. HR is nothing special. I opted for Finance. There is a compulsory foreign language course. Usually choice of Spanish, German, French and Chinese. There is no concept of electives because of small batch size. Of 120 students finance and marketing would have 40-45 students. Around 20 in scm and the rest in hr. Specialisation needs to be chosen by second semester. First semester will have a club for each stream to help students make a choice. I joined the scm club and opted for Finance since it was a better match for me.
Internships Opportunities
Internship opportunities are not very great. Most internships from college are sales oriented across streams. But finding an Internship is not very difficult given the college brand. The faculty especially the external faculty and the placement cell are extremely helpful. You would have to be dumb to not get an Internship. PPOs are rare and usually come only from some companies like genpact. I found an internship by myself sending my resume with a cover letter to many companies. The company I interned with offered me a PPO that I didn't take. Also 4th semester is rather light on coursework and I used that time to do another Internship and make some money. Completely unofficial and not suggested by the college. I landed a second PPO from there. The major reason for landing 2 PPOs was some excellent Excel and Access coaching in the college. That course will help you very much when you start working in firms.
Placement Experience
Varies from person to person and year to year. 100% placement is easy given small batch size. But quality of work is radically different. Some like Deloitte and Infosys and some other It firms will offer consultancy either sap or social media marketing etc. These guys would pick up half of the batch including most of the good students. Smaller number 2 to 6 each are picked up by firms like Crisil, Citi, IcIci, Genpact etc. Then a lot of PSU banks and smaller firms come up and pick who ever is left. Finance students will have a decent choice of companies. Marketing students will be spoilt for choice. Scm is a mixed bag. Students with good work ex can land in HUL but freshers may have to settle for something like Blue dart. Hr the small batch size causes issues. Salaries could range from 18 lakhs to 4 lakhs. Some like infy pays a lakh for each year of relevant work experience while some don't. Basically you will get a job for sure but it very much depends on your skills. No matter what your starting salary is you can start earning at Tier1 school levels within 2 or 3 years of passing in most firms if you are good. Also most people end with international assignment after a few years. So just get into a good firm with a good profile and don't fall for the starting salary trap.
College Events
Numerous events like any decent bschool. Each specialisation has multiple events. There are numerous cultural fests andnteh close proximity to 2 other Symbiosis colleges also help. So its 3 times the fun.
Fee Structure And Facilities
I did not for 7 lakhs. Now it's 13.5 approx. Still very much value for money. For people with decent work ex and gidd comm skills you will easily make up the costs with a couple of years of work. Freshers who land a good job will also get a very good deal. Extra expenses over the fee is very much discretionary and will vary on how much one smokes/drinks/parties!!!
Fees and Financial Aid
Loans are quite easy to get. Plus there are some scholarship s for good students. Also there are some scholarships for students with financial difficulties set up by the alumni association
Campus Life
Spent 2 great years in your life at SIIB and walk out with friends for a lifetime. Huge number of opportunities in all sectors like sports, competitions, workshops. Students also do social service like teaching slum kids, conduct street theatres, do dance and music classes. Only you can decide where you should stop. The batch size of 120 students in IB plus around 60 for AB (agri business) and 40 for EE (Energy Environment) means everyone knows each other. The college is quite liberal and you are in charge of what you do most of the time.
Hostel Facilities
Nothing to write home about. Hostels are okay and mess is average at best. but it's pune so there are plenty of food options near the campus. It's in an IT park. Plus the climate in Pune is great most of the time. It's 2 or 3 people sharing rooms and you will get slot for sure. Just basic amenities.
Alumni/Alumna
Alumni network is there and most of the alumni are doing quite well. But alumni connection s are not very strong but things are picking up now with the new director and all
Exam Structure
Sems 1 to 3 are kinda hectic. Sems 4 is quite chilled out with everyone already placed. It's a CGPA system so the pass marks depend on the average score. Something like 70% of average is the pass mark. You will flunk exams with difficult y. I have seen only Management students and some international students with language issues suffer. Every professor would have his way of deciding the marking and its a combination of class activities and exams. It's a deemed university, so there is a lot of flexibility.
Faculty
Excellent faculty although there are exceptions. Very few permanent faculty mostly just 1 or 2 for each specialisation. Bulk of teaching is done by external consultants and industry people shared between Siib, Sibm pune and scmhrd. So altogether good faculty. Derivatives, corporate Finance, Securities Managment etc have markedly great faculty. Marketing stream also has some great professors. Advanced Marketing Research deserves special mention.
