Entrance Preview

I took the entrance exam of Sathyabama University. I chose Sathyabama University beggars because of the reputation of the university as the flag bearer in Education in South India. The Admission process includes an entrance exam and Interview.

Course Curriculum Overview

3

The chemical engineering course mainly comprised of mass transfer, heat transfer, thermodynamics, chemical process calculation, chemical reaction engineering, process control. The elective were oil and paint and polymer engineering. We also study management papers.

Internships Opportunities

The internship opportunities are sparse and only top scorers bag internship. The students try to get internship through contacts and online portals. My college lacks in internship opportunities.

Placement Experience

3

Most of the students get placed in IT companies regardless of their trades. Companies like Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant are the bulk recruiters offering average 3.2 lpa salary. Companies like amazon, Microsoft, flipkart, biocon, polaris, musigma and other reputed companies too visit the campus for recruitment.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee for my session was 97000 including the tuition fees, mess fee and accommodation charges. In my opinion, the fee structure was feasible. In comparison with other private colleges the fees of my college is feasible. However for the junior batches the fee has been increased.

Fees and Financial Aid

The college has students from agaram foundation which provides education to bright but lesser privileged students. The college also provides scholarship/fee concession to the poor students.

Campus Life

3

Some or the other event is always going on in the college. The students clubs are very active. English literary club, science club, eco club, rotaract club are few of the clubs. The gender ratios are balanced in the clubs due to the encouragement provided to girls to participate. I have never encountered any incidence of gender bias or racism.

Exam Structure

The exam schedule is little hectic as we have two internals in one sem before the end sem exams. That means 8 exams in an year. The exam pattern is tough and can't be predicted. It is hard to score high marks in the theory exams. The lab exams are tough as the students have to perform the experiments individually. Marks is distributed among record, lab experiment and viva voce.

Faculty

2

The faculty wasn't exceptional however few professors were very knowledgeable and always ready to help. In my department due to the lesser number of faculty members, the professors were forced to take many classes. However in other departments there are plenty of faculty members.

Placement Experience:

Students usually become eligible for campus placements from the 7th semester (final year). Only a limited number of companies visit the campus. The common recruiters are mostly mass hiring IT service companies like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Cognizant, Accenture, and a few local startups. Core companies rarely visit the campus. Very few students get placed directly on campus. For example, in my batch, less than 25–30% of students received offers, and most of them were in IT support roles rather than core engineering jobs. Salary Packages –Highest Package: Around 4.5 – 5 LPA, offered by a software company. Average Package: Around 2.5 – 3 L
