Remarks

Utter freedom given in all aspects of college life, Wide range of options and opportunities, Interesting ventures such as Semester Abroad program, cultural meet (Example : Last year, Japanese Cooperation staffs paid a visit to our campus and few students were selected for an interactive session of which of I was a part and now I am really good friends with them and they have promised to help me with working in Japan in the future) and Research abroad options, Immense importance given to extra curricular activities especially in the literary field, Up to the mark infrastructure, Wi-Fi, AC classrooms and spacious, lush green surroundings.CONS, Can be quite expensive, Syllabus can occasionally turn out to be boring. Conclusion:I don't think I would've wanted my college life to be anywhere else. The Pros easily out weigh the Cons. Hope my feedback was beneficial.

Entrance Preview

SRM Engineering Entrance Exam was the exam I took and my rank was 25,978. Why I opted for this college?First and foremost, unlike most of the other colleges, my college allows you to 'think' and everybody's thoughts have a place in the college. Secondly, because of the generous freedom given in all aspects, you learn the most important quality of decision making and everyone is allowed to talk to anybody they please, irrespective of gender which I think is more important than educational aspects, as the more you interact the more you grow as a person. Third, this college is a cultural hub, you get to learn about a lot of cultures. Fourth, it has a different approach to the concept of education (do check out the website about options like subject and faculty choosing) and funds to sponsor even the pettiest of research ideas if found to be valid. Fifth, it probably has the most opportunities accumulated in one campus from Semester abroad program to internship and placement options. Sixth, the most important reason, for once the college is actually like what they had described in the prospectus. Admission Process: There is no interview as such for selection, you are given your options based on your rank. I chose chemical engineering because of its career options and also because it interests me the most.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

As I already mentioned I have taken chemical engineering and SRM KTR has the unique option of subject and faculty choosing where you get to choose the subjects you want to learn and the faculty you'd like to be taught by. In the first three semesters, there are no electives, however you can choose your faculty and in the fourth semester, chemical engineering course has the following electives : Energy technology and management, renewable energy engineering and enzyme engineering and technology. Regarding the curriculum, the first semester deals with basic subjects common to all departments. The second semester has one professional subject (Material technology). The third semester has six professional subjects and three common subjects to all departments. ( Professional subjects are : Momentum transfer, Mechanical operations, Organic chemistry, Chemical process and calculations, Momentum transfer laboratory and Mechanical operations laboratory)From the year 2016, I will take up my fourth semester in my college.

Internships Opportunities

I'm currently pursuing my third semesters and I haven't interned anywhere so far to provide information and opinions over internships and stipend offers. But from my seniors, I hear that there are dozens of internship offers present. You also are allowed to pursue internship outside the country and you can pursue internship combined with research options. As you probably understood already, there are no rigid rules and the world is your oyster inside this college.

Placement Experience

4.5

To be honest, as I've been so far, not everyone gets placed. By this I mean, most of them get placed and the deserving get placed easily with good offers. However, students with a lot of arrears and general lack of interest in education find it harder to get placed. About companies that take students from our college, the lot is quite impressive. My seniors tell me that the packages offered are beyond average expectations.

College Events

5

There are two main cultural fests every year, Aaruush - A national technical fest and the other, Milan - A national cultural fest. Apart from this , the college students also host SRM Model United Nations every year and all events have generous prize money as awards. There are other events like Yuva (Management fest), Medical college fest, Annual sports fest, Inter college fest, Inter house fest, and also events for school students.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Per year, the fees structure for my department is: Tuition fees: 1,85,000 Rupees AC Bus fees : 48,000 Rupees Book fees : 15,000 Rupees CDC fees : 15,000 Rupees.I personally feel, the book fees is expensive as the books equivalent to the fees paid are not given and few of subject notes are in PDF format with no book given. The bus fees is worth as the bus is Air conditioned and comfortable, the travelling experience is very smooth. The CDC fees (Career development Center) is worth half the money paid, but the department is probably the best in the campus and develops you as a person. The tuition fees is slightly over priced but combining it with other opportunities and options, you can call it worthy.

Fees and Financial Aid

You can avail four types of scholarships merit based scholarship, extra-curricular based scholarship, Sports based scholarship andNeed based scholarship. I currently have availed extra-curricular scholarship twice of 46,250 Rupees each in my first and the on going second year for excelling in the field of debating, literary events and arts. Regarding loan facilities: Loans are available at lower interests, kindly check the website for precise details as I've not taken any loan so far.

Campus Life

4.5

Regarding gender ratios there is not a great difference in the gender ratio except in the mechanical engineering department, there is stereotypical majority of males. Regarding hostel parties students party right from the first year of college but all parties are under control and not highly ravage. Tolerance towards sexual orientation, gender, economic status, race, political and religion is appreciable. However there are clashes between north Indian and south Indian students sometimes, where one deems the other inferior.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

I'm a day scholar, therefore I cannot provide details on hostel expenses. But, I can provide an insight on hostel facilities and mess food as I stay over in my friend's room during cultural fests. The hostel's cleanliness stands undisputed with regular cleaning and servicing. The mess food is not spectacularly delicious but it isn't choke-able either. On a scale of 1 to 10, the cleanliness would deserve a 8 and the food would deserve a 6 given that this scale is a strict one.

Alumni/Alumna

College seniors are perhaps the most helpful seniors you'd meet. They share their experiences freely and give generous advice on subject choosing or internship offers. When it comes to cultural events, seniors and juniors compete together, however there is no partiality in judgement. There are no serious ragging cases I've heard so far. Seniors and juniors stand united for organizing college activities.

Exam Structure

Every semester consists of : Cycle test 1, Cycle test 2, Model examination and Semester examination. I personally feel hectic during the cycle tests as it occurs in a period of two months with little time to prepare. However the model examination and the semester examination are chilled out with more than enough time to prepare.

Faculty

4

Faculty standards are absolutely astonishing in my college. Most of the faculty are PhD doctorates and aid you immensely in any research you'd like to take up. Are faculty members up tight and unapproachable most of them are not. There are no nonsensical rules followed inside the premises, so you usually find no faculty adamantly forcing rules on you. Everyone mind their own business, probably the best quality of the college. Are the faculty members actually highly educated yes, they are. There are no poorly educated faculty members in any department. Do all the faculty members teach well? Most of them know their subject and do teach well and the rest do know their subject but don't have the ability to put their knowledge into teaching. Nonetheless, all are well versed in their fields and nearly all have a good research background. What is the general age group of the faculty members you find faculty members of all age groups.
